This week’s Foto Friday Fun features 5 images chosen by readers out of my photo archives. Most of these images were taken from my return visit to Kruger National Park South Africa.
Jonker chose #579 and this sunset from Satara Camp in Kruger National Park is to tease him enough to go there with his family. It’s only a couple days drive away from where he lives in Port Elizabeth South Africa.
Yogi chose #918, “cuz that is Tulsa’s area code.” I’m pretty sure this Wild dog, with all four feet off the ground, doesn’t have or need an area code. But Yogi does have a “wild” dog so should appreciate this sighting from Kruger National Park South Africa.
Bibi chose #888 because, “Those eights look cool.” And so do the Wild dogs. Notice how the rear dog has one blind eye. Didn’t seem to slow it down any. The pack was on the hunt. And yes, I did take that many photos of these as you can see by the previous number and this one.
Diane chose #950, “for not particular reason.” I wonder if she’s ever seen or been a secretary. This Secretarybird, seen in Kruger National Park, searched for bugs which it stomped on before eating them. Why ‘secretary’? Notice how the head feathers look like pencils stuck in the hair of a hard working secretary. (Sure hope you can actually watch this video Diane as I know you don’t have the best connection.)
Sherry chose #370. Hope she’s not too disappointed with this dung beetle crawling on Joan’s hand that we saw at iSimangaliso Wetland Park South Africa. Don’t worry, she didn’t pick it up out of the dung.
My choice this week is the Impala that out ran the Wild dogs on the hunt.
Thank you for joining in Foto Friday Fun where readers choose a number from my archives and I share the corresponding photo and a story. To join in the fun for next week leave a number between 375 and 990 in a comment and maybe see your chosen image next week.
Do you have a favorite from this week?
Look for other photos posted on Geogypsy Facebook page not usually seen here.
That wild dog is amazing with all four feet off the ground. But then the Impala surpasses it for agility, speed and “flight” for sure. Both these photos are my favourite. I thought I had chosen a number but obviously didn’t. My chosen number for next week is 989, just to stay in the game! Great post, Gaelyn.
They were both lucky shots, especially the Impala in flight. Have you down for #989.
# 515 for next week please. That looks like a big dung beetle to me. Interesting color. Did it just sit in her hand rather than panic? The impala picture is simply National Geographic!! Glad he got away.
Dung beetles tend to be pretty docile. Plus Joan has a calming effect on everything. The Impala shot was very lucky as I don’t usually capture anything in motion. Have you down for #515.
My number got a Kruger sunset. Couldn’t ask for better. We’ve been talking about Kruger for so long now but just haven’t been while you’ve been there three years in a row.
Could I get 783 next week. Just another random number
I may have been to more places in SA than most South Africans. When the kids get just a little older you should definitely go. Do spend a LOT of time sitting in the car on game drives. Have you down for #783.
LOVE the WIlddog with all its feet off the ground!! And the dialogue on the Bird!! Excellent!!
Thanks. I learn so much from my excellent guide. 😉
Your photos are really great. Of course I am partial to the ‘dogs’, be they wild, but that dung beetle is a beauty (yes, it is). Next week I’ll have 555. I live on a walk-up that has 111 stairs and I go up 5 times a day….and down, of course, but that’s not an effort. Actually, either are the 555. I am used to it.
The Wild Dogs were so amazing to watch, the pups are very curious about every little thing along the way. There are such a wide variety of dung beetles here, and Joan knows them all. Have you down for #555. Wow, that’s a lot of steps and great exercise for you and Bibi.
woweee! With the captures of the wild dogs and impala, you would make a great sports photographer! Fab. shots Gaelyn, no wonder you like it there.
Animals in action are just the luck of the draw for me so think I’ll stick with mostly landscapes that don’t move.
No number this week?
I love the pic you chose for me. Incredible. The Impala is pretty cool also.
I’m going for 666 cuz it is the mark of the beast and I’m expecting lots of beast pics from you on your trip.
Everything I’ve seen here has been incredible. Have you down for the beastly #666, not the first time you’ve chosen that one. 😉
Gaelyn I down loaded the Secretary bird so I could play it, on line it does not work! Yes I have seen the birds before, they always make me laugh, it was good to see the bird in motion rather than standing still. Love your photo of the wild dogs, after the leopard probably my most favourite of South Africa’s wild animals. You sound like you and Joad are having an amazing time, so very jealous 🙂 Keep well Diane. Oops nearly forgot, I see 555 and 666 has gone so what about 777?
Glad you were able to watch the video. They are rather comical birds. The wild dogs were a lifer for me and saw them twice. We are having a great time. Have you down for #777.
Fabulous action shot on the impala….wow. But every picture is wonderful.
