I have no idea what I’m doing with Windows 8 but I bought a new laptop in South Africa. Sorely missing the Windows Live software like Writer and Gallery but didn’t want to spend the extra money right now. Downloaded Picasa and will have to learn how to use it too. Plus post directly on WordPress. Lots of learning curves ahead.
Spent the day driving from St Lucia along the coast north to Nelspruit, a town large enough to find this computer.
Tomorrow we’re headed back to Kruger National Park. Why, because I want photos of this amazing place that were lost on the stolen computer.
Hopefully I’ll get this all worked out soon and be back to posting about this amazing adventure in South Africa.
Good luck with the learning curve!
Gee thanks. I now have a link to make Windows 8 act like 7. Will be trying that later.
Good luck, Gaelyn! I’m enjoying these photos! 🙂

SO glad you got a new computer and REALLY REALLY glad your camera wasn’t stolen. I’m sorry to hear you had to do Windows 8. I’m dreading it. I put the newest windows Live on my machine with Windows 7 in order to have Live Mail and Live Writer and they both give me nothing but trouble so when you figure them out as I know you will, perhaps you can help me out. I know, as if you have nothing better to do. Can’t wait to see more Kruger.
Someone sent me a link to make Windows 8 like 7. Will try that later and let you know. Also will check to see if I can get Live Writer without paying.
Live Writer is free … so you should be able to download it (part of the LiveEssentials package). However, I’m a Mac user, and was just reading that certain versions of Windows 8 (something called RT) doesn’t allow for Live Writer installation. If that is not the version you have … you should be able to get Live Writer from here —

Thanks Erin. I thought LiveEssentials was free. Now if I can just find time to download it.
Good luck with Windows 8. It seems that the people that hate Windows 8 the most were most recently Windows 7 users. The last time I used Windows, prior to Windows 8, was using Windows 98. I then went to Ubuntu for many years and this year when my computer died I could only buy a new one with Windows 8 installed unless I wanted to wait. I did not find the learning curve for Windows 8 that steep. There were a few things that really ‘bugged’ me but I found easy fixes by doing Google Searches. For what I use a computer for Windows 8 has not been a problem. I also installed Picasa after getting this new computer and it was also very easy to use. Not that I use it well but it is easy!
I’ve been using Windows 7 for years. It’s always a learning curve to change. And right now I barely have time to blow my nose let alone figure this out. But that’s what I have. I’ve used Picasa for a while also, but not exclusively. I also use LiveGallery and am trying to download LiveEssentials.
So hard to do all this while on the road and have limited time. Try to take it one step at a time. 🙂
Glad you have a computer once again.
Definitely not easy. Getting less sleep.
Love the Zebra. And of course when you’re on vacation that’s the best time in the world to have something entirely new to learn. Yeah right. Good luci.
I not only Hate Windows 8, but don’t really have time to take and learn it. Just muddling along.
I am glad you can now keep your memories safe and good luck with computer issues…
The zebra with his tongue out is cute. 🙂
