While on safari the animals are usually on the move so many of my photographs end up being butt shots. Yet I was able to put together this wildlife video at Kruger National Park, South Africa from my 2013 visit. I’d like to take more video during the 2014 journey through South Africa.
This is the first time putting together multiple videos with music. My Nikon D5100 doesn’t do a bad job at video but I need a lot of practice, especially holding still.
Watching the animals move around while being in the car-cage is an indescribable experience.
This wildlife video is just under five minutes and I think the funniest clip is at the end. If you haven’t been on safari in South Africa yet I hope this wildlife video will entice you.
Most of these videos were taken through a vehicle window so I apologize for the unprofessional quality. I’ll keep practicing every time I get a chance. If it moves, take video.
Great video. It is graceful even. I forget how long Elephant legs are when you see them walking out and about. Very remarkable seeing these animals that I have only seen in zoos moving around in such big numbers.
The thing about video is the upload time. The video I made of Logan singing a few a weeks ago took an hour to upload. I thought about getting a GoPro HD video camera with some money I got at Christmas but loading and dealing with the huge files involved turned me off. I can go to work at least on the weekend and upload it but they don’t really like us doing that so I don’t very often.
Thanks Yogi. Because my signal was dropped multiple times during the day I had to reload it several times. It took hours. There has to be a better way. I can’t go to work and do it. 😉
Great video. Wish you could do the same sort of thing with animals at the Grand Canyon or other places in the U.S.
Thanks. I haven’t really tried video much before, especially at the canyon unless I’m shooting lightning and then I usually pull a still. I’d like to put more video on the blog but not if it’s going to take all day to download.
Beautiful — certainly points out the diversity and sheer numbers of each animal. But that is so much work.
Thanks. Seems there must be a better way to download video that doesn’t take hours.
Wow Gaelyn David and I both watched this and it was wonderful! Thank you SO much for going to all this trouble so we can see what you see or at least a little of it. You did a great job with the camera holding it long enough for us to take it all in. Sure makes what we see in the states sort of pale by comparison. Africa has such BIG animals and they are so unusual. Love that last careful walk and those rotating eyes. Africa, what a place!
It was fun to put together several small video clips but what a pain to download. I will try again though. I’m glad it makes you feel like your there. And yes, the animals do seem exotic to us in the US, but imagine seeing a cougar.
Well done!!! Love this, especially the wildebeest clip. This brings back lots of memories. This time we will take a lot more but uploading IS a PAIN!! Takes me hours too. I have so much stuff which I have not uploaded yet because it takes so long.
I do want to take more video this time.
Gorgeous, this makes me want to go straight to South Africa now
Feel free to join me, I leave in 9 days.
The only sure fire way to increase your upload speed is to buy more upload bandwidth, in Yarnell that may not even be possible. There are a few things that you can do without the increased bandwidth but they probably will not make enough difference that you will be happy.
Unfortunately that isn’t an option in Yarnell. I’ll see how it goes once I’m in South Africa. Or, videos will wait until I’m back on the North Rim with DSL. Thanks for the input.
This was a great video, thanks for the effort put forth Gaelyn! And your right, the last clip is so funny! Do they ever move faster?! I was thinking of you today as I addressed your post card – I hope it arrives before you leave!
I think that’s kind of normal Chameleon speed. Oh boy, a postcard.
