I’m really too excited to write much because I’m only one month from South Africa. I actually leave one month from yesterday but wouldn’t arrive until a month from tomorrow. Gets a little confusing when traveling across 10 time zones, into the future.
Plans are formulating. I still need another suitcase to replace the one that was burned in the shed. Otherwise, I’d be ready to leave tomorrow. And soon have this for a view.
Since I am ‘working’ on resignation regarding to returning from full time to help with family I am happy to follow along on your adventures in South Africa. Looking forward to coming along in your new suitcase!! Let the fun begin!!
I better get a bigger suit case. 😉
You’ll get back on the road.
You must be so excited! South Africa is not on my radar for future travel so I am looking forward to following your adventure!
Wish I was already gone.
OMG look at that picture! No wonder you are so excited! I can’t wait either. So close now. I’m pretty surprised you ever come back actually.
One month away. And how long are you going to be gone this time. I know you are going to have so much fun and see so many things. Yippee!! MB
Going for 3 months this time.
Wow! The countdown begins. So exciting.
I hate commenting on my phone but since my laptop won’t post here for reasons known only to it , I have to say WOW to that picture!! I can just feel how excited you are. I am surprised you come back
Are you kidding. I have to come back to the canyon.
True, true. It is a tough life you lead. :-))
Awesome itinerary. One thing you might want to think about adding is Gamkaberg eco-lodges at Gamkaberg Nature Reserve near Oudtshoorn in the Little Karoo (Western Cape). The book Africa’s Finest, all about the most sustainable and responsible safari destinations in Africa, lists it as one of only 7 South African places in the continent’s Top 50. You can camp there (you need a 4×4 to get to the campsite) or stay in the eco-lodges – we recently paid under $100 for a 4-bed ‘lodge’ all to ourselves! See more here: http://www.roxannereid.co.za/1/post/2013/10/fossil-ridge-eco-lodge-in-the-gamkaberg-a-perfect-spot.html
I read that post and the place sounds intriguing.
South Africa will be richer for having such an enthusiastic visitor as you, Gaelyn. I laughed: you sound like Grant: yesterday he said: only 27 days before we leave site. I would stay here forever (I find it such an upheaval to go out every 10 weeks) but this we’ll have been here for 14 1/2 weeks so he really has cabin fever. It’s been a long stretch for us. I hfope the poachers leave off their terrible massacring of our rhinos as from 2014. It’s been a horrid few years for rhinos in SA. Enjoy your preparations. (((Hugs))) Jo
I sure hope we can meet up again. And I pray for the Rhinos and Elephants everyday.
I can’t believe how quickly this last year has flown by. It seems just a moment ago you were anticipating your last visit here. May the next month go just as quickly for you 🙂
Sue
Yes, the year went quick but the last month seems to drag. Will you be around Kruger towards the end of Jan or beginning of Feb?
I can’t wait either!!
I am so excited for you, and for those of us who will be following your adventure. 3 months, Wow!
Have a WONDERFUL TIME. May the winds always be at your pack, and your camera charged with lots of memory.
RavenMaven
OH I will. Sure wish I had a bigger lens. 😉
Wow. For me, that’s way to close to a rhino. I still envy you your trip!
So next year, I’ll pick you up on the way.
You are one of the best time travelers I know…. exploring the forgotten to be remembered for always.
Life is for learning and building memories. But you know that.
Glad you are excited about your upcoming trip.
Can you get one from the thrift shop! The airlines tae the shine (and a few corners) anyway so a new shiny one unfortunately doesn’t stay that way for long.
The month will fly by on wings and you’ll be winging your way to the warm Southern Hemisphere.
I’m looking at thrift shops for the suitcase. Don’t need a shiny new one. I am more than ready for the warmer climate.
