Established as a National Park May 22, 1902, Crater Lake formed over 7700 years ago when Mount Mazama erupted then filled with rain and snow melt. At 1,943 feet deep, Crater Lake is the deepest lake in the United States. An amazing place to hike, fish, take a boat ride, or just sit and enjoy the view.
Gorgeous picture Gaelyn of a place on my list. You’ve upped my motivation for sure.
Definitely put on your list for western must sees.
Why, oh why do you keep constantly adding to my bucket list? I can see myself just becoming a rock on the side of the crater and gazing across the lake for all eternity. Indeed a wonderful place.
I’d gladly join you there as a rock.
What a fantastic place. I would love to explore it.
Awesome place to camp and hike during summer then gets buried in snow.
I’ve only been there once and it was totally fogged in. But….still so beautiful. When I went to Portland a couple of months ago, the plane went right over it and even that was gorgeous. I could see the little island and all. I didn’t know it was that deep. Wow!
Flying over would be awesome. I was there once when it was obscured by smoke but have otherwise lucked out.
Crater Lake is on my bucket list. It seems be one of the unique places in the world.
Cool — thanks for the memories and the taste of Oregon!!! It’s not all that far away from where we stay in the summer, but we’ve only been there once in the last 10 years or so. Oughta’ remedy that.
Sometimes it’s the places in our own backyards we visit least.
I can imagine the scenic views across the lake must be stunning
