This week’s Foto Friday Fun includes 9 images chosen by readers picking a number out of my photo archives. All their choices come from Arizona.
Jo chose #299, “for no reason at all.” I have reasons for taking so many photos to jog my memory when sharing stories. Guess I’m a visual kind of gal. Even while driving I like to document the journey. Like driving home from Prescott towards the familiar Weaver Mountains of my backyard.
Firefly chose #281, “just because that is where the numbers fell.” Well that number falls into Grand Canyon and beyond to the plains of the Navajo Reservation. This eastern view is from the Upper Ken Patrick trail on the North Rim.
Yogi chose #300, “Splitting the difference. I am a professional negotiator and I never ever split the difference. So this time I can do that.” Do you think these two were negotiating or splitting the difference? Mule deer are seen frequently here in Yarnell.
Barb chose #356, “For no particular reason.” Seems to be a lot of that going around. Another view of the Weaver Mountains but this time from below in Congress, Arizona. I live at the top, where the desert breeze meets the mountain air.
Sallie chose #400, “because somebody else is already first I might as well be last.” This is probably the last time I’ll get lucky enough for such an intimate shot.
Diane chose #333, “just because I like it for some odd reason.” For some odd reason I really like to take back road trips where the scenery is usually worth the bumps along the way. And this drive on the Wagner Road provided some awesome views over the rolling ranch lands just north of where I winter.
MaryBeth chose #316, “the road I live on in Stanwood.” Sorry, Diane got the road picture. I am so thankful that Mom’s old rocker along with the doily she knitted and stuffed dog she made, –I grew up with a dachshund—were in the RV and not in the shed that burned in the Yarnell Fire.
Elaine chose #277. Javelinas are regularly seen around Yarnell most often towards dusk. The water I put out for the birds attracts them into my yard.
Arija also chose #300. One of my only, almost successful, night shots taken as the moon rose from my Toroweap campsite. I really need to work on more night sky photography.
My choice this week is not from Arizona. This view from the Gydo Pass looks down on the valley where I stayed at Rhodene Farm in South Africa. Because I LOVE to drive mountain roads my host recommended this short drive to the top. After stopping to enjoy the view I headed back down and on my way.
Thank you for joining in Foto Friday Fun. I really enjoy digging through my archives and pulling the stories from my memories. To join in the fun for next week leave a number between 1 and 5100 in a comment and maybe see your chosen image next week.
Do you have a favorite from this week?
Look for other photos posted on Geogypsy Facebook page not usually seen here.
I enjoyed seeing the Javelina–definitely not something I’d see here in Alaska! How fortunate that beautiful chair was in your RV, along with the doily and dachshund. Having lost so much I know those have even more meaning for you now. Since the year is rapidly coming to a close I’ll go with 2013 for next week.
Didn’t think you’d see Javelinas in Alaska, but then I don’t see moose. Yes, I am So glad that rocker didn’t burn. Have you down for 2013.
You have outdone yourself with birds beasts and fantastic scenery as well as that lovely rocking chair and reminders of your mother. You know how I love the night sky so thank you for my moonrise, I too need to work on my night shots. My shot of the day is the view into Navaho country. looks like I’m first to claim a number so I’ll go for the heights and choose 5100.
I guess if I spent more time outside at night I’d be more motivated for star shots. Have you down for 5100.
Yay! If I could choose one picture here it would be the Grand Canyon view and can you believe it, its the one my numbers fell on.
For next week I’ll go high, but not all the way. #4999
I’ll keep teasing you with canyon photos until you come to see it for yourself. Have you down for 4999.
Nice pics again, the javelina photograph is especially interesting. I have never seen one in the wild.
I choose 666. Just cuz I am a devilish guy, sometimes. Or at least I talk a big game.
Being I haven’t put bird seed out I’m not seeing the Javalinas yet. Have you down for 666, you devil you.
Well dagnabit that’s the last time I’ll use my “smart” phone to comment. I know I one fingered how much I liked my rear view mirror picture and put in a new number. OK well this week I’m on my computer and I am so glad you didn’t lose those family treasures in the fire. Love those mountain shots- Weaver, Grand Canyon and South Africa. I get the sense you really are a mountain girl. I’d like # 1010 please.
I can’t comment from my ‘smart’ phone either. I am Definitely a mountain gal. Have you down for 1010.
I love all shots, as usual. I have had very little luck with night shots also. Sometimes–but just pure D luck. I am so glad some cherished items were in the RV with you. I love the mountains too. I feel so much better when I head for the hills.
Put me down for 2011–the year I met Bob and for all the fun I have had since. MB
I need to practice getting out at night, with the camera and tripod. Have you down for 2011, obviously a very good year.
A great set of photos but that moon rise is amazing. How about 1915, the year my Mum was born
That night shot surprised me. Have you down for 1915.
Great selections as always — you did catch those doves at, um, exactly the right moment didn’t you! Fascinated that the javelina would come into your yard … I guess water is kinda’ scarce in those parts. All the photos are wonderful. I’ll show Bill that last one for sure — he loves driving mountain roads too! For next time, if you have room, I’ll choose 1957, the year we got married.
Thanks Sallie. I giggled when the doves photo came up. Bill would love to drive in South Africa over the numerous mountain roads, but on the left/wrong side of the road. Have you down for 1957.
You see so much and from so many angles. You are a wonderful traveler through time and space, going where no one has gone before.
Although others have been there, not with my eyes.
I love that my number brought up a mountain range with a bird name! My favourite is the night shot. Good photography for sure Gaelyn. My next choice is 4999 as it just has a good ring to it. Have a great weekend. (((Hugs))) Jo
Thanks Jo. I forgot about the Weaver birds. Have you down for 4999.
Well, as usual I love all the photos…even the naughty one!! 8*) But my favorite is the rocker!! The craftsmanship of the rocker is so beautiful!! As is your Mum’s work!! 8*)
I would ask for 1928, the year my Mum was born. Thank you!! 8*)
I grew up with that rocker and wanted it forever. Have you down for 1928.
A great group of photos this week. That sunset one is special and I love Wagner Road. I’m glad, too, that those mementoes from your Grandmother survived the fire! I’m choosing 1091 – the ages of the twins and their brothers.
Thanks Barb. I feel so grateful the rocker was with me and not in the fire. Have you down for 1091.
Beautiful shots of the Northern Arizona. I hope the Javelina come around again and I hope you well. I always think the Eurasion-collared Dove to be such a lovely bird. While they are common here, I’ve never had one at my bird feeder.
The javelinas are around and those doves came to my feeders all the time. I haven’t put out feeders this year because I don’t want to encourage the javelinas in due to the pill of fire stuff I’m still sifting through. And I miss it.
