An elephant traffic jam
While slowly cruising the roads in Kruger National Park you really have to pay close attention to who is crossing. I’m looking forward to this kind of traffic jam.

Gaelyn, whenever I went to the circus the elephants always smelled awful. Do they smell this way in the wild? Could you smell them from your vehicle? This must have been an amazing sight, though and I can’t believe you are already going back! I know you will have fun!
I’ve never been offended by an elephant’s smell though they do have musky/earthy odor. Who knows how they were treated at a circus or what their health was. Not to mention, even under the ‘Big Top’ the enclosed space wouldn’t air out naturally. I am ever awed by the elephants.
What an amazing sight! Nice to see such a large healthy group.
The females hang out together. 😉
And I thought I loved buffalo jams. This is just a fantastic picture!! I just can’t stop looking at it and smiling. I’m getting greedy now – is there ever a giraffe jam???
Yes there are also giraffe jams, but usually only two at a time. Will share image soon.
I loved seeing jams of buffalos in SD (and a while back in Yellowstone)…can only imagine an elephant jam would make my heart pound…they are so wise looking and wonderful.
I do feel the elephant’s presence in my heart, like a humming hug if that makes any sense. The females hang together so the young may learn from the old. This is a traffic jam I can sit in for hours.
That is so cool! I could sit and wait in a traffic jam like this any day!
Me too. And looking forward to doing it again, and again.
What an absolutely wonderful sight to see a whole extended family taking the kids for a walk. A major item on my bucket list is seeing these marvellous creatures in the wild. At my age and state of health it seems highly unlikely but at least you provide the virtual pleasure for me. It is the next best thing to see them through the eyes of an equally appreciative friend. Thank you.
I plan to provide more South Africa pleasure on this next journey. The way the females stick together is special.
Ah what a sight. I would sure yield the right of way to those guys.
Gets really spooky when they walk towards you.
A pleasure to be stuck in this kind of traffic jam! Imagine we saw this on our motorbike when crossing Botswana into Zimbabwe. A herd of females with babies, mmm. Not to be trifled with. The Biker was very nervous and only waited long enough for me to get two photos! Great post, Gaelyn. (((Hugs))) Jo
It would be a lot different being on a bike.
Cool shot. I just love them elephants. Can the car make it through the leftovers from the jam??? MB
It offers a wiggly obstacle course. Joan says, never drive over the elephant dung. First there can be dung beetles, and second thorns.
Lovely family group! We’ve waited on the road for various kinds of wildlife, but nothing quite like this.
I’m open to watching any animal jam.
These are just the best traffic jams to be in
Agreed. I look forward to being held up in traffic by elephants again.
Give me this kind of traffic any day. 🙂
Me too, and soon. 😉
