This week’s Foto Friday Fun includes 9 images chosen by readers picking a number out of my photo archives. Last week I asked for a number that would correspond to one of the 1302 posts published since the launch of the originally Geogypsy on blogspot five years ago. If you missed it there’s a link in the #1 choice below.
Jo chose #1025, the date of the day she left her comment. These cloud shadows on the Vermilion Cliffs were a driving shot on my way to the North Rim in April 2012. Sure felt good to be that close to home after the trials and towing of that unforgettable journey.
Firefly chose #1302 which is from a most recent post about Birds of Eden. I noticed several commenters didn’t agree when I say I’m not a birder. Well, maybe I am. I would most certainly return to spend more time here.
Sherry chose #1111, more photos from the road, and sometimes the best views are behind us. Thus an entire post dedicated to views in the side mirror.
Yogi chose #15 taking us back to 2008 when I was getting dental work done in Algadones, Mexico. A very colorful place.
Arija chose #1248, “the year the building of Cologne cathedral started. Although a bomb destroyed the apse in the raid that flattened the rest of the city in WW II, the pilots all aimed at this magnificent gothic cathedra but obviously, an angel’s wing protected it.” I felt protected by the giant Mushroom Rock that rose behind camp at Golden Gate Highlands National Park in South Africa.
Sallie chose #208 a meme post for Remember Whensday which takes us back to my teenage years on Christmas 1970. Our dog Adolph unwraped his football present and was ready to play. These old scanned photos don’t look very good but still bring back the memories.
Diane chose #555 from the Scenic Sunday meme showing just one of many Grand Canyon views from Crazy Jug Point. Being that’s one of my favorite places to camp along the rim there are a lot more images from there.
MaryBeth chose #1 because, “I want to be first—someday in my lifetime.” OMG, this is my very first post and nobody even commented on it. I was a total newbie just finishing up my first season Rangering at Grand Canyon as I introduced myself to the cyber world. If you don’t already know me you might want to check this one out. And could you leave a comment please?
Melissa chose #8, “for the windows 8 that is currently making me crazy on the new computer!!” Still early in my blogging this post went out at the end of my first season when leaving Grand Canyon for the winter. I was, and still am, entranced by the fall aspen with their glittering coins of gold.
I have enjoyed, and sometimes agonized, over every 1,306 posts—including this one. I love to share the places I work and play, seeing your (virtual) smile makes my day. The same is true for me as a Park Ranger seeing the smile of visitors when they look into the Grand Canyon. Or maybe the light bulb going off over their head when they see a condor and know it for what it is because they attended a Ranger talk and learned how to identify the difference between a turkey vulture and a condor. Yet the best for me was finding this note one night before a campfire program.
Thank you for joining in Foto Friday Fun. I really enjoy digging through my archives and pulling the stories from my memories. To join in the fun for next week leave a number between 200 and 400 in a comment and maybe see your chosen image next week.
Do you have a favorite from this week?
Look for other photos posted on Geogypsy Facebook page not usually seen here.
Oh WOW, They are all fantastic photos and memories. I love the scenic ones (including the one my choice brought up) and ADORE the Knysna Lourie (Turaco). What a stunning photo. And of COURSE, who couldn’t simply love dear little Adolph so keen to start playing football! And wow, the note from the Secret Campers is to be treasured for sure. (Which you have done!) I would like 299 for no reason at all. Now I’m off to read your first post and comment (if I haven’t already way back then when I met you in Cyber space) Have a great weekend. (((Hugs))) Jo xxx
I so enjoy digging out these old photos and memories. The note from Secret Campers made me cry, then and every time I see it. And you are the first ever comment on my first post. Thanks. Have you down for 299.
Beautiful pictures as always. I’m glad my number brought up a Knysna Loerie. The other pic that caught my eye is the one with the sausage.
My number for next week is… numbers rolling… balls flying… wheel turning… 2…8…1… Chosen just because that is where the numbers fell.
I knew you’d appreciate seeing Adolph. Have you down for 281.
Again great pics. I love the one for me. Lots of people go to Mexico for dentistry and eyeglasses. I love all the pics but the one of the canyon from the National Forest is my favorite.
For next week I pick 300. Splitting the difference. I am a professional negotiator and I never ever split the difference. So this time I can do that.
Congrats on getting past ‘splitting the difference’ with your choice of #300.
Awww, you are dealing with memories and sentiments this issue. So, Thanks for the memories. Love it all. MB
How about #316 the road I live on in Stanwood? MB
Those straight road pics remind me of my travels in the west, Gaelyn. You’re right – sometimes it pays to look behind you! For no particular reason, I’m going to pick 356.
Have you down for 356.
My favorite is the one from your Number 1 post, because it’s beautiful and I loved the link to your blog beginnings. But it was fun seeing your old scanned picture with the number I chose, because I used to love Sally’s Remember Whensday meme. That was fun and I wish I had more energy to scan more of our old pictures. I’ll take 400 because somebody else is already first I might as well be last.
That was a fun meme but I don’t have many photos from the far past as they were destroyed in a flood. It still took almost a whole winter to scan what I did have. Have you down for 400.
I have learnt to love the canyon through your eyes so thanks so much for this photo, That letter is adorable and one that would certainly have made my day for me. Number for next week, just because I like it for some odd reason 333. Have a great Sunday. Diane
I’m glad to have brought you to the canyon. That letter made my day for the entire season.
Have you down for 333.
That note is heart warming. I know from doing my education programs how much something like this can mean. When children are leaving to go home and they come especially to me to thank me or give me a hug, it means the world to me.
Yup, even though the kids can get on my nerves sometimes they can also be special as to make the day.
Lovely selections of photos, but my favorite is that thank you letter. What a wonderful treasure to receive! I enjoyed visiting you way back when on your first post! Put me down for 277.
That letter was such a treat. Have you down for 277.
I was very touched by this post and had to let it rest within me before I could venture on commenting. I really love all the photos, my mountain and that lovely bird but it is the recognition of the children that sings in my soul.
You really are a wonder to inspire that sort of recognition.
I’d love to have another number but cannot put a handle to any in the range so could I please have an even 300 which is neither here nor there.
That letter touched me deeply as well even knowing it wasn’t for me specifically but to all the Rangers. Have you down for #300.
Fun post and all great images! I prefer the canyon portraits, all so hauntingly beautiful! Thank you for sharing!
