This week’s Foto Friday Fun includes 10 images chosen by readers picking a number out of my photo archives. Several people chose ages for either themselves or someone else. Considering we are all youngsters these low numbers bring out some real treasures from the past, though not always of the highest quality photos.
Firefly chose #13, “An unlucky number for most but my fav number.” This image shows a lucky day for me, when I got married. Maybe another lucky number would be the day I divorced but that’s a different story. Here you see my Dad and Mom, husband and me, and my two step-children. The wedding was performed at Morton Arboredum so all 40 guests had to pay $1 to attend. Reception held later at a restaurant.
Sherry chose #836. I don’t usually get to see the Grand Canyon with snow unless I visit the south rim during winter like I did a couple years ago for a gathering of historians.
Jo chose #61, “I’m heading for that age in 2014.” Jo is a birder so should like her choice this week of a burrowing owl who lived at the California Living Museum where I volunteered as an animal keeper. We called this one Wilbur and the other one Orville.
Diane chose #71 following Jo’s lead for her age, I presume next year. She’s a jewelry maker so will probably appreciate this necklace I strung many years ago. I haven’t taken out beads almost since I started blogging. Maybe I should put together a store page on the blog to sell some of the pieces I still have, like this one.
Sally chose #164, “just because!” My dear friend Berta collects just because she can and this display of colorful glass over her sink shows what amazing taste she has. I loved when the morning light created a colorful glow in this window. So glad I took photos of this because it is now just a memory after the Yarnell Fire.
The butterbean carpenter, who may be a new reader so I don’t know if they blog, chose #173, “for why I don’t know !!!” I’d like to welcome you to Geogypsy with this sunset over Transept Canyon. Did you know that Rangers get paid in sunsets?
Yogi chose #197, “It just popped in my head.” Even after six seasons my eyes pop every time I look into Grand Canyon. Yet my favorite sight is the ever changing light and shadow play as the sun moves across the sky. Can you see where the shadow of Angels Gate is perfectly outlined on the far canyon wall towards the left?
Arija chose #77, “Yep, I have reached three score years and seventeen, aren’t I lucky?” Yes, I believe you are lucky in many ways Arija. Your number takes us back to 1986 when I made this stained glass clock as a wedding gift for friends.
Elaine chose #57, “our high temperature for the last two days, and likely the last we’ll see in the 50s for a good like time.” Being she lives in Alaska there will be plenty more of this white stuff than I see here in Yarnell, Arizona.
MaryBeth chose #46, “the age of my oldest.” She really likes road trips and so do I. This is one of my old trucks and RV at a rest stop in Boron, California on a road trip from Oregon to Arizona.
My choice this week, twice because I couldn’t decide and seems they couldn’t either: Three generations of elephants in Kruger National Park, my favorite animals on safari, with lions my second or maybe zebras or… Guess I’m thinking elephants because I’m planning for my next trip to South Africa leaving in mid-January for three months. And that’s why you’ve been seeing so many posts about the last trip which I feel duty bound to finish posting about before going again.
Thank you for joining in Foto Friday Fun. I really enjoy digging through my archives and pulling the stories from my memories. Next week I’m asking for a number between 1 and 1302 for the number of posts I’ve published. I will show an image from that post and share the link.
Do you have a favorite from this week?
Look for other photos posted on Geogypsy Facebook page not usually seen here.
Ah Gaelyn, Bertha’s glass display is stunningly beautiful. I LOVE that your 40 guests had to pay a $1 each to attend your wedding at the Arboredum. I love the stain glass clock; LOVED the Burrowing owl, Wilbur and I simply loved the elephants in Kruger. My number for next week is 1025 (today’s date) Have a great weekend. (((Hugs))) Jo
I too loved that glass. And still laugh about people paying to attend my wedding. Have you down for 1025.
I liked Berta’s glass shot, especially since blue is my favorite color! And your stained glass clock reminded me of my dad this morning. Bittersweet moment since he has passed away but that was a hobby of his that he enjoyed.
Have a great day, Gaelyn!
Guess I’m just into glass.
No number this week?
I’m trying to imagine what it would look like at the north rim in winter with snow on the canyon. Must be a sight to behold. Keep in mind I don’t know real snow so anything with snow gets me excited.
I’m sure although getting paid in sunsets doesn’t pay the bills they sure are worth every cent.
I’m going to take the last number on offer. #1302 for me
I’d rather see that much snow in photos only. 🙂
Have you down for 1302, which is this post.
Darn, Firefly beat me to it. I was going to take the last number so I guess I’ll take 1111 instead. All these pictures are just terrific. I love all the ones of the canyon of course but mine in particular is gorgeous. Great picture of the burrowing owl. I’ve been in several locations where they are but have never seen one other than in pictures. You are quite a talented craftswoman. What an amazing wedding gift for your friends.
There are no bad views of Grand Canyon. Have you down for 1111.
I love all your images, especially “my” image. I can’t get enough of the Grand Canyon. My favorite shots are the elephants!
The number I pick is 15. Just cuz
I can’t get enough of the elephants either. Have you down for 15.
You are inspiring me to keep my RavenTravels40.blogspot even though I am not currently traveling.
You should. I’m sure you have 1000s of photos to share and more stories.
What a wealth of wonders you have this week! For me it is definitely the elephants, I just can’t get enough of them, with runners up of your wedding photo and that lovely clock you posted for me. You really are a girl of so many talents.
Pre fire we had quite a collection of antique time pieces, grandfather clock with Westminster chimes, a lovely marble mantle clock with a gentle delicate chime, a hand carved cottage cloak, a carriage clock and a lovely 18th century french clock with tiny roses on it’s face covered by a glass dome, to name just a few. Like all else they too were transients on this earth.
If you want to make this old biddy happy, just post more elephants.
If I could have yet another pic, I’d like 1248, the year the building of Cologne cathedral started. Although a bomb destroyed the apse in the raid that flattened the rest of the city in WW II, the pilots all aimed at this magnificent gothic cathedra but obviously, an angel’s wing protected it.
The elephants are my fave.
I lost a family mantle clock in our fire. Guess we’ll never forget all those things even though we can live without them.
Have you down for 1248.
For next time, now that I’m back and catching up, I’ll choose 208 (if I’m not too late). It is our address here. Berta’s blue glass made me happy because it’s so beautiful and terribly sad because it is gone. My favorite (it is so hard to choose) I guess is Yogi’s choice, the beautiful light on the North Rim. But then again I love the elephants — the three generations and knowing about how they stay with their families like that just makes me so happy.
I’m glad you have so many favorites, they are all my favorites. Have you down for 208.
You are right, next year 🙂 Lovely set of photos and yes I am the same since blogging. Very little jewellery made and I have done no painting which I love. Our internet connection here is so very slow at the moment that it takes me 15 mins to download a blog so maybe I should give it a break for a while or I will be bald. Perhaps it is trying to tell me something!! If I can get back to you next Friday I will go for 555 (just off the top of my head – minus the hair). Take care Diane
Funny how our hobbies change over time. When I had the slow dialup I multitasked and got things done between downloads. Have you down for 555.
All very neat pictures. This is a very clever idea of yours and you are a very talented person. Love the Elephants and that clock is wonderful. I love the blue glass and your necklace is perfect. I still have a pair of your Earvines, that’s what I call them. MB
Oh I chose #1—I want to be first—someday in my lifetime. LOL MB
Glad your still wearing your earvines. Haven’t made any in a while. Have you down for #1, my first post.
I’m BACK!!! Finally got a new computer!! I have been so lost without all my blog-friends!!!
I love the glass photos because I worked with stained glass for a long time and the window because it is just so beautiful!! So sad it is gone…
I choose number 8 for the windows 8 that is currently making me crazy on the new computer!! 8*)
Welcome back. Wondered what happened to you and sorry to hear about computer woes.
I love seeing the combination of light and glass.
Have you down for #8.
