I’ve been sick, and had company. Not the best of combinations. But I’ve still tried to get out and enjoy life.
Sick has been a bout of diverticulitis so my gut pains me especially in the mornings. Sorry if that’s TMI. Thank goodness for the modern miracle of antibiotics. Even if that means a long 85 mile drive to the nearest pharmacist. Plus numerous bowls of soup and enough water to drown a camel.
Yet I may survive to share more stories soon. In the meantime, enjoy these images from touring friends out to Point Sublime via the wildflowers of Big Basin.
OK, so it’s not a flower. Can you see the blue Jay’s feather?
OK birders, what is it? I’m thinking some kind of Waxwing.
Juvenile Kaibab Squirrel
Hope you enjoyed this little tour as much as my visiting friends did. And I hope to be back to normal health soon and posting more of Grand Canyon and South Africa.
Here’s wishing you a return to good health soon. There’s no better medicine that a drive to Point Sublime and those amazing views, wildflowers, birds and incredible skies.
Thanks Carole. I am, after almost a month, starting to feel almost normal.
So sorry to hear what you have been going through. Had an attack myself once so know how bad it can be. Hope you are soon feeling much, much better.
I am working my way into soft foods. Feels like that’s an improvement.
Feel better Gaelyn!! I do like soup but there comes a point when it can be too much:) As for the bird…..hmmmmm…..Waxwing is possible. Not many birds have crests around Arizona….Cardinals…no. Female Phainopepla….I don’t think so. It’s too far north? But that other one is a Wild Turkey;)
I’ve never seen a waxwing up here before but that’s what it looks like to me.
They have been seen up in your area around May but no recent sightings. So……they may be migrating again.
Very cool!
Ecch. I’m sorry to hear that. Do you have to start out in the ER, or can you manage it until you get antibiotics?
No ER this time. Thankfully my Family Practitioner was able to FAX the antibiotic script to Kanab. Now I’m just hoping I don’t have to go through another script.
Ugh! That’s awful. The beak and crest look like a waxwing, but can’t see the coloring very well.
I agree about the waxwing but have never seen one up here before.
I also get diverticulitis from time to time so I know just how you feel. Hope that you are now over it. These photos are amazing, you do live in a beautiful spot. Take care and hope you are better. Diane
It really sucks doesn’t it.
Yuck. Being sick sucks. Hope you’re on the mend soon. Those photos are incredible.
I’m working my way into soft foods so that’s a good sign.
I’ve also had diverticulitis but doctor says not enough to have the surgery. If he felt like I do with it he would change his mind. The main trick is to hit it hard with antibiotics as soon as you know it is there. Get we’ll soon. Eat some yogurt!
Thanks Rick. I’d avoid surgery at all costs. Going to start the second bout of antibiotics and am eating yogurt.
Sorry, you were sick, I hope you are feeling much better now! I love the pretty wildflowers and the gorgeous Grand Canyon scenes.
I am working my way into eating soft foods now.
Sorry to read that you haven’t been feeling well. I have several friends with intestinal issues. One has been told NO ANTIBIOTICS OR PRO BIOTICS as they remove the good flora needed in the intestines. She was also told to NOT eat RED MEAT as it has so many antibiotics. She buys Buffalo meat and grinds into patties. Also ONLY WILD caught fish. Any farm raised is also given antibiotics.
So enjoy your photography, you are quite gifted. Have you ever thought of a book of your photos?
Feel better soon.
I only eat organic. I haven’t thought of a photo book, maybe I should.
Like that photo with the lone traveler overlooking the Canyon. A month is a long time to be sick so here’s hoping for sunny days ahead.
Thanks. Hope Kelly is feeling better.
Oh darn that just sucks! But Look at those beautiful wild flowers…what a nice get well bouquet of pictures your friends brought back! Thinking of you. Feel better soon!
Thanks Sallie. The flowers are definitely a pick me up.
It’s pretty clear here that sick or not, you take gorgeous pictures and take your friends to fantastic places. Way to carry on in the midst of serious illness. Not sure I’m that strong. I’m a bad sickie and pity anyone who has to be around me.
Trust me, I’m a whiner when sick. But by afternoons have felt pretty good. No serious hiking though.
I’ve been struggling with the flu and a very bad chest for over a week and finally getting over it now. Doesn’t help being stuck in a cold office all day. I love the picture of the canyon with the man standing at the lookout. Tells so much of the view.
Dress warmly and feel better soon.
Beautiful pics, I wish a speedy recovery my friend.
Thanks Yogi, thank goodness I am feeling better.
So sorry you are not bouncing around happy and healthy as usual! Can’t have my favorite Park Ranger feeling all yucky….. glad the yogurt helps. While in town picking up meds, you might pick up some kefir as well. Sometimes it goes down easier than the yogurt. Take care my friend!
Thanks for the suggestion. I am starting to feel better, so hope I can call myself on the mend. Hugs to you both.
Aw, sorry you’re sick. But your friends brought you flowers… I hope you’re be back up on your feet and ‘shooting’ soon.
Thanks. I am feeling better finally and hope to be out ‘shooting’ some sunflowers tomorrow.
Oh man!! Feeling sick and painfully so is just NO GOOD!! I hope you are on the mend NOW or SOON!
that bird could be a Waxwing or a Kite or I was thinking a shrike. Find out for sure and let me know.
Made it to Red Top Mountain, hiked a bit but didn’t do well in the agate department.
GET WELL, DAMMIT!
mb
I am feeling better and starting to eat soft foods finally.
I’m still leaning towards Waxwing.
Bummer about not finding agates, but hiking always brings new discoveries.
I’m sorry to hear you’ve been ill, Gaelyn. Hope you’re feeling back to normal by now.
Your visitors provided you with lots of pretty pics to share.
Thank goodness I am feeling better.
