This week’s Foto Friday Fun includes 11 images chosen by readers picking a number out of my photo archives. Weighing in pretty heavy with South Africa. Maybe that’s because I’ve been sending out the SA vibes for this winter’s journey.
Rick chose #2706, “It is my street address from my family’s home for 50+ years. It is one of those numbers I’ll never forget.” And I’ll never forget the almost endless views from Swartberg Pass in South Africa.
Firefly chose #1234 as a random number. Well turkey vultures soar more than randomly over the Weaver Mountains, whether they’re burned or not. I look forward to hiking there again in the spring when new growth returns through the ashes.
Sherry chose #2174. Although she’s been enjoying the lush forests of Maine I think she’ll also like this sweet little garden of succulents on the front porch at Ganora Guestfarm in South Africa. BTW, thanks for the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse.
Melissa chose #1960, “The year I was born.” This sunrise showed the birth of a new day with the added excitement of dolphins while I visited Tsitsikamma National Park at Storms River Mouth South Africa.
Mary Beth also chose #1234, “because it is all in a row—like my ducks should be.” No ducks seen around these sandstone cliffs in a side canyon of Cottonwood Canyon in the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument in Utah. But if you look closely, the rock might in the middle sort of reminds me of a short-billed duck.
Diane chose #2 911, for two of her second favorite model of Porsche. Being she has such expensive tastes and is originally from South Africa I’m sure she’ll appreciate this photo. I actually went in feeling safe as I’m not a diamond fan, but, it was my birthday.
Elaine chose #1001, “for the 1001 Arabian Night Stories, as you weave for us the stories of your travels through life.” Well maybe the reason I weave has to do with it not taking much wine for me to feel tipsy. But I just couldn’t resist a nip with lunch at Storms River Mouth, Tsitsikamma National Park in South Africa. Very good wine produced there.
Teri chose #1118, “my birthday Nov 18.” Don’t suppose I’ll ever celebrate my end of March birthday, or hers, at Crazy Jug Point in the Kaibab National Forest on the North Rim because of the possibility of snow. But it is one of my favorite canyon viewpoints during the summer.
Arija chose #3333, “for no reason at all, just because.” This meerkat had very good reason to act as sentry for the mob because there could be predators about in Addo Elephant National Park in South Africa.
Bibi chose #3910, “the number of my grandmother’s house where I spent many happy years.” I could spend many happy years enjoying this view from Gydo Pass above Prince Albert’s Hamelet in South Africa. The only problem would be in the winter when snow covers the peaks.
Kathie chose #2145, “the street number of a house I use to live in in Colorado.” She is an avid birder so I’m sure will enjoy this seagull from Tsitsikamma National Park. Maybe I’ll even get an ID.
My choice for this week was taken yesterday at the canyon although these classics are from another age.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun. It’s been a real trip to dig through my archives and pull the stories from my memories. For next week leave a number between 1000 and 5000 in a comment and maybe see your chosen image next week.
Which one is your favorite from this week?
Remember to check out the Geogypsy Facebook page for more photos.
Hey, thanks for the ‘long and winding road’ that I’d sure like to travel. It’s too dang hot here now to go anywhere. I live like a vampire, lying low in the day and coming out at night.
Bummer about the heat. What no number for next week? 😉
Ha, ha! Love the view behind that wine glass! Now we all know what it takes to keep you weaving your tales! My favorite photo though is the last one. It looks like it could have been taken all those years ago. Well done! I’ll choose 1920 for next week, as that looks about the time that photo could have been taken.
I’m really not a drinker so it only takes a sip.
Not sure those cars could have driven up to the North Rim in 1920, which I have you down for. Thanks, that was a fun sighting and playing with the photo.
The photo of the meerkat lookout is brilliant. Absolutely love it, love it, love it. I also like the wine glass in the Tsitsikamma National Park. How I wish I could be there right now.
I would like to select 3230 for next week. It was the first four digits of my phone number growing up.
We watched the meerkats for a long time. I’d happily meet you for a glass of wine at Tsitsikamma. Have you down for 3230.
Wow this is a group of fabulous pictures. I do like that little garden of succulents. Someone has a very artistic touch. That last photo is perfect. I love the ones of Gydo Pass, the Mercat and Crazy Jug Point. I’m going to have to go back through these Foto Fridays and make a list of all the beautiful North Rim pictures you’ve shown so I can visit every one.
Both JP and Hester have an artistic touch for gardens, ranching and their home is spectacular.
Just do a search on my blog for Grand Canyon and you’ll have a list to last a lifetime.
What, no number this week?
I am very happy to see that my birth year brought up an ocean photo! I love water, but especially the ocean! Thanks! 8*)
It was very hard to choose a favorite photo this week because I also adore rocks, mountains… I think my favorite might be the garden of succulents. They are amazing plants and besides there are ROCKS there!! 8*)
I am craving music from my younger years so I choose 2112 this week. It is the title of an album by the Canadian rock band Rush released in 1976. I have the album and think I have the CD somewhere… 8*)
I have 100s of ocean photos from Tsitsikamma but I’d rather just watch and listen to the ocean than swim in it. Never heard of this band, no surprise, but have you down for 2112.
This is such a creative way to compose a post, nice work.
Thanks Martha. Pick a number and join the fun.
The meerkat photo was so cute and wonderfully composed.
I’m “in” next week with 2002 – the year of my Honda CR-V!
Thanks Cheryl. They were so much fun to watch. Have you down for 2002.
Try WalMart for the watch batteries.
Such fun going from place to place with you. Adore the meerkat and yesterday’s vintage looking photo…and every picture really. I’m saying 4999 because I want to see what’s almost last.
Thanks Sallie. It’s really fun to share with readers. Have you down for 4999, which is probably not close to last.
No I have not got expensive taste at all I just like Porsches! N says I must be the most economical wife around! It was his fault that he bought a Porsche and I grew to like them 🙂 Number out of a hat this time 1901, oops that did not work very well as 901 is another model!! Have a good week Diane
I hope you know I was kidding you. Have you down for 1 901. 😉
Your Friday Fotos are so much fun. Your comments matching the picture is both amusing and informative. MB
Thanks. Didn’t see a number from you this week.
Oh such wonderful memories to dredge up for you, all so beautiful but frankly, with me, you have hit the nail right on the head. I adore meerkats and have been watching Meerkat Manor quit avidly. Sorry about the late comeback, got tripped up with my ticker and laid low since Saturday, only just back to what is ‘normal’ for me now.
If it is not too late to pick another, I would like 1949, the year Australia accepted us, mother and I, as sponsored refugees. My brother (19) and sister (16) had to come out first. They were split up and had to serve their two year contracts in different states far from each other. After 6 months they could sponsor mother, over 45 and I, under mandatory school leaving age. It took a while but in under a year we managed to get the remnants of our family reunited.
I sure hope you’re feeling back up to snuff.
Your stories Always amaze me. Hope you’re writing a book. You are most certainly down for 1949.
Thanks Gaelyn. I’ve got a few notes jotted down but nothing like a book . . . yet??
Ohhhhh Ms. Brown:) Seagulls are a real pain in the %$$. My guess is that it’s a Juvenile Kelp Gull. She owes me one:)
Couldn’t prove it by me.
