This week’s Foto Friday Fun includes 7 images chosen by readers picking a number out of my photo archives. The pattern this week includes Arizona images. Well, except for my choice because I’m dreaming and scheming about my return to South Africa.
Arija chose #365 because she’s “hoping I can enjoy another year of full on, wonderful life.” I see this long view along Wagner Road being a good sign for long life. There are so many vistas to observe in life.
Sherry chose #278, “for reasons too convoluted to explain.” I have a hard time explaining how awesome it feels to watch sunset from Toroweap. This iconic view of the Grand Canyon and Colorado River is like no other. And the long and rocky drive is also like no other.
Diane has been choosing Porsche model numbers but this week she turned the number around to fit so gets #449. I sure hope she isn’t seeing any of this white stuff from a winter in Yarnell where this jay was looking for food and lazy me hadn’t filled the feeders.
Barb chose #536, “my Denver address.” For me and my Ranger shadow our current address is at the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. You all have an open invitation to visit.
Elaine chose #301, “for the time of today’s sunrise.” I’d never be awake for that. But I do see a lot of sunsets, especially from my Imax RV windows during winters in Yarnell.
Bibi is soon to be off on another travel adventure to France before returning to her Belgrade home for the fireworks and chose #714, “for July 14th, Bastille Day.” Fireworks in the US usually happen on July 4th but at Grand Canyon we have a water parade instead so we don’t want to start any fires. Instead we enjoy fiery sunsets like this one seen from Cape Royal.
Firefly chose #405 which takes us to a view of House Rock Valley and the Vermilion Cliffs beyond from an overlook on State Route 89A as it drops off the Kaibab Plateau. I stop here every time I head east off the plateau to see different light and shadows play.
My choice this week takes me back to Kruger National Park in South Africa. I don’t know why hyenas get such a bad rap as I thing they are gorgeous. Can hardly wait to return and listen to their crazy calls from my tent at night. Will try to load an audio so you can enjoy their sounds as well.
Hyaena, Spotted (I think this will play on Media Player)
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun. It’s so much fun to dig through my archives and pull the stories from my memories. If you’d like to join the fun leave a number between 563 and 902 in a comment and maybe you can see your chosen image next week.
Which one is your favorite from this week?

Capturing the present for future memories of the past
I have two absolute favourite pictures this week. The first one is the sunset from Cape Royal. Wow!!! An stunning picture. The second is the picture of the hyaena. Even though I live in South Africa I have never ad the opportunity to see one. For some reason I just haven’t seen them in Addo which shows I need to visit more. Great picture of him skulking along the road.
My random number for next week is 702
We were always up early to see hyenas and even saw some youngsters. Get thee to the parks.
Have you down for 702.
The Toroweap sunset is pretty spectacular and my first choice, but so are the other photos.
I’ll never get this number on a slot machine (at least I’ll be “lucky” to see a great photo) so my pick for next week is 777. ‘-)
Most sunsets are pretty spectacular at the canyon.
Let’s see how lucky you get with 777.
I am in another world lately and have missed this SO MUCH!!! So here I am in love with all the sunsets!! It’s all I see too. My hubby is the daylighter and rises before the sun EVERY single day!! Ugh! 8*)
In his honor I choose 666, because it really is his birthday!! June 1966 and yes, I did rob the cradle by 6 years! We joke about both all the time. 8*)
Sunrises just come too early, especially during summer. Have you down for 666. Seeing us woman tend to live longer than men I think it a wise choice to to go younger. 😉
The landscape photo is breathtaking (third from last). It makes you feel like you’re on top of the world.
Are you the one who took the photo of that hyena? Were you able to get that close to the hyena or did you just zoom your camera?
All the photos are mine unless otherwise noted. While visiting Kruger National Park in South Africa the animals were often quite close. I took this from the passenger seat with very little zoom needed.
Most Grand Canyon views from the rim give that feeling. Glad you liked these and thanks for stopping by.
That’s a long view down Wagoner Road! I’ll shadow you sometime, Gaelyn – I’m sure of it! Love the Canyon photos. I’m going to go for 90 – my f-i-l is visiting us and that’s his age!
I’m hoping you will shadow me sometime Barb. Enjoy your visit. Got you down for 90.
Thankfully no snow here but we have still not reached summer temperatures and it will not stop raining!! Love the pic of the hyaena but they really are not the most lovable animals. We had one at the Veterinary Research lab where I worked and I had a huge amount of respect for those massive jaws.
Running out of Porsche models so random number this week I will go for 899. Diane
Sorry to hear you’re not seeing summer temps yet. There’s no way I’d want a hyaena as a pet but I still think they’re good looking animals.
Have you down for 899.
Love the sunrises and the hyaena. 🙂
It certainly took me a long, long time to comment. I looked and looked and simply cannot make up my mind between all these stunning shots. The photo you chose for me could just as easily be taken here on the way to the Flinders Ranges and I sincerely hope I still have that long road ahead. With all the natural beauty in the shots, I just can’t go past the shadow that is a monument to you and your work.
If you kindly let me choose another number, it would be 707, the room my poor Prof is stuck in in the nursing home. Being a meteorologist, he also had a pilot’s licence though not for 707s. He used to take groups of students up over a variety of terrains so they could experience the fact that the atmosphere is very dynamic and can toss a small plane about like a cork in a bucket.
Thank you for the compliment about my shadow. I am proud to represent our National Parks.
Must have been an awesome experience for the Prof’s students.
Have you down for 707.
Hugs!
Thanks Gaelyn, it sure was, got ’em all shook up and a bit green around the gills.
It wasn’t until I opened Foto Friday 13 and looked for my picture that I thought………..what? I didn’t ask for a number. So I came back here to see what I’d done. Clearly I read this post on my phone which is a BEAR to comment on and didn’t go back on my laptop and do it. Bummer since I just LOVE my foto for this week. So gorgeous. As are the sunrise and sunset pictures. Actually this week I really like them all. That long vista is such a wonderful idea that I must remember when I’m somewhere again where there is one. I’m not sure but this week may be my very favorite week of Fotos and look how late I am commenting. Well……good grief!!
Hey, better late than never. Sometimes life gets in the way and you have been very busy lately. But thank you for checking back.
