Jo from Memorable Meanders and I have been following each others blogs for years and finally met in Knysna South Africa. During my last visit her son John guided me backpacking in the Drakensberg Mountains.
Jo and husband Grant were on holiday from their current home in Tanzania riding their motor bike around the Cape for a couple of weeks. I’m sure she’ll be posting about their journey after returning home.
We stayed with friends of theirs at the Guinea Fowl Lodge with the most amazing view over Knysna Lagoon.
Jo and I took a ride up to The Heads overlooking the Indian Ocean and Knysna Lagoon. I only got lost once while we chatted away and I missed a sign somewhere. Having been there before I thought I knew where I was going. The overlook is surrounded by huge mansions, mostly empty and only used on holidays. Such a waste.
Our hosts Peter and Mart served a delicious snoek (fish) braii (BBQ) with Roosterkoek (grill cake “roor-stir-cook” with the first r rolled) and homemade grape jam. Unfortunately it was too late and dark to take photos. I even drank a little Sherry.
Even the local birds eat well at Guinea Fowl Lodge as these Redwing Starlings can attest filling their bills with corn to take back to the nearby nest.
After a filling and delicious breakfast it was time to say goodbye to Jo and Grant as they continued on holiday and I to Tsitsikamma National Park Storms River Mouth.
I’ve been fortunate enough to meet two bloggers during this journey in South Africa. Have you met any of the bloggers you follow?
Oh WOW, Gaelyn, just think it was only last Saturday that we had such a lovely afternoon and evening at Pete and Mart’s divine Guest House. It was SO good to meet you, WON – DER – FUL and most precious. I can hear your voice as I read your posts now. You are the fourth blogger I’ve met. One, who was then from Tanzania but now lives in the Eastern Cape; and we met in Johannesburg – with John and Debbie. One, a lovely Canadian lady whom I met in Nakuru Kenya (can you believe it!) and then Gattina from Writers Cramps whom Grant and I met in London! But it was brilliant meeting you my dear friend and I hope you’re still having a good time in our great country. (((Hugs))) Jo
I can’t tell you enough how wonderful it was to meet. Is nice to read blogs with your voice also.
Are you back home now?
Can you email Mart & Pete’s email so I can send them this link please?
I have yet to met any new followers or blog authors that I follow. That is about to change as I will soon be meeting one and hope to meet you later this fall. My grand adventure is about to begin!
It’s really like meeting old friends. Look forward to meeting you in the fall. Life is an adventure.
It didn’t post my last blog…. I’ll try again!
Let me know if the comment luv worked. I think I may need to update it.
What a lovely place. The Indian Ocean….it sounds so, I don’t know, exotic. You are definitely a blogger whose blog I read whom I’d like to meet. I met up with Paula of Our Year Outdoors today at a Native American Pow wow. Both were great!
Does sound rather exotic.
So nice to meet bloggers. Hope we get to meet one day.
Such a beautiful place and how great to meet up with Jo there. You were lucky she was there at the same time as you. Hope you have another good week. Diane
I drove from Nature’s Valley to Knysna for this visit, then back to Tsitsikamma. So worth it.
Yes, I have met 7 bloggers (10 people) that I read daily or monthly. Two of the couple bloggers I have met twice, a second couple three times and one solo blogger I have met a number of times (we have met to let our dogs run together).
It is always nice to put a face with the author. I might have met you if you had not already left for South Africa, I was nearby in Congress for three weeks.
I’ve met 16 bloggers so far. Sorry I missed you, but…
What a pleasure following your travels in South Africa and such beautiful photos….Yes, we will meet someday!
Thanks. I just know we’ll meet up too.
I’m so glad you got to meet up with Jo on this trip. And in Knysna of all places. One of my favorite places.
We chatted away like the old friends we are.
It is always fun bloggers. It is funny that they are actually three dimensional people.
I like to put a voice to the face.
I wondered if you would meet Jo on this trip. I’m glad it worked out. Looked like a beautiful place to meet and a nice visit.
We enjoyed a wonderful, if not brief, visit. And Knysna is a beautiful place.
What a great place for a vacation (or stopover on one).
All the Guest Houses I stayed at were lovely.
Hi Gaelyn: Have been reading your blog off and on for a few years and find you to be an interesting person with your mobile lifestyle and your Park Ranger job at the Grand Canyon. Your trip to Africa looked like lots of fun, love the photos. I am just curious as to where you park your RV when you go on extended trips? Kinda of interested in an RV life myself and so I read these blogs to get some insight and some wisdom from long-time RVers like yourself.
When I take off somewhere like this last trip I just leave the 5er sitting right where I live in it. Of course I still have to pay rent, but water & electric are nominal.
Thanks for taking the time to follow. There will be many more South Africa posts coming soon. Plus I return to the canyon the end of next month.
