There’s more than wildlife in South Africa so after spending two days in Addo Elephant National Park it was time to head to the beach. Only problem the wind was blowing absolutely sideways upon arriving at Bushman’s River Mouth.
I ventured onto the jetty very briefly for some photos and was instantly sandblasted. Not good for me or the camera. So at the suggestion of some locals moved to a more protected Kelly’s Beach to the southwest.
Although still windy it was bearable to walk a bit and gather some seashells.
The next day was calm and warm at Kidd’s Beach.
Which turned out to be a great place to walk on the rocks exploring tide pools.
More beaches to come at Tsitsikamma and West Coast National Parks.
Beautiful beaches…. a stunning place to explore tidepools and inspect the shells!
OMG, fabulous photos, Gaelyn. Walking those beaches, collecting those treasures – I would be in heaven! Oh, you ARE in heaven! Lucky you!!! GREAT Travelog!
I was thinking of you while walking the beach.
That camera is worth its weight in gold (I think thats what it cost you), anyway, what clarity of the water and waves – Made me want to get back to the ocean – but there is that wind – – – Love you – B
You are So right about the camera, and the wind. Hugs and Happy Birthday!
Gaelyn, you are having too much fun! Wish we could be there with you! Thanks for sharing the beautiful photographs!
Thanks. Join me next time?
When the wind blows down there it really blows! I remember at times struggling to open a car door beacuse the wind was s o strong. Have fun Diane
People here just shrug and say that’s the way it is.
The color of that water is absolutely gorgeous! Beautiful beach shots. I will probably never get there, so I am glad to be able to see it through the eyes of others.
Yes it’s almost as blue as the Caribbean.
I love these little teaser posts and even though I am here in South Africa I’m looking forward to read your posts later on to experience the whole trip with you.
Thanks Jonker. I’ll be posting about this trip until I return next year.
Looking forward to seeing those shells when I come see you in the GC.
Then I won’t give them all away to Berta. 🙂
Well you’ve definitely got me beat in the beach department. A beach in South Africa. Look at those shells. Can you feel the envy??? Wish I had a second life time (and some lottery winnings). My goal would be to visit all the beaches in the world.
I did pick up a few beauties.
I did pick up some beauties.
Your pictures captured the mood wonderfully Gaelyn. The three days seminaar was such a great success and have some useful contacts out of it which I will be following up. Hold thumbs for me at the Parks Board today!!
The beach was a nice change for us.
Wild and wooly blowing sand on a beach is why I take recyclable cameras.
Beautiful area and I love the tide pools.
I’m sure the Nikon will need a professional cleaning when I get home.
Gorgeous beach — too bad about the wind. Hope your camera is OK.
Seems to be the nature of the beach. Camera still working good but figure to give it a professional cleaning once home.
