I feel about 14,000 words behind in my self-challenged attempt to write an eBook in 30 days about going to the North Rim Grand Canyon. Really not that hard to write 1000 words in a day, if I could discipline myself to do it every day. And I find it much more fun to peruse Facebook and catch up with your blogs. Plus planning for my winter adventure in Africa. But I am working on this project, and it is shaping up.
I started by thinking of the questions people ask when they get to the visitor center, the answers I give repeatedly, and what information might help them before they leave home to visit Grand Canyon’s North Rim. I asked my readers for their input, thank you. I made a document and began to list ideas. In the old days this first step would have been on paper in the form of what I call bubble brain by putting down topics and connecting them with my form of logic. Then an outline.
All this time I’m contemplating a title, looking for a reoccurring theme. Plus asking my own questions. Who is the audience that will need this information? What is the goal of this publication? Where should it be made available? How can I help you? Why….am I doing this?
Day 18. Slowly the words come together. Between watching the birds.
Looking forward to buying your book when you get it done. 🙂
Thanks Sally. Nice to know I have at least one customer.
Much more fun to watch the birds but your aid in planning would be invaluable to many.
It took me a long time to build up the nerve to clean the sensor but I just couldn’t bring myself to pay 75-100$ to have someone do it. I look at lots of instructions on the web, bought a kit and steeled my nerves.
The most I feel comfortable doing to the camera is gently blowing from an air can.
Almost thinking it would be kinder not to comment, so you wouldn’t have to answer (please don’t feel like you have to….write 1000 words instead!)……but I do so admire your willpower and of course your talent!
Thanks Sallie. I always appreciate comments. You readers are all an incentive. 500 more words since posting. Yet I’m such a procrastinator.
You have so much knowledge to share on this subject. I can’t think of anyone more qualified to write about this than you.
Thanks Colleen. There are many very qualified Grand Canyon authors out there.
Maybe so but you always have a unique perspective.
Wow, Gaelyn, I will definitely buy your book. What a project. I love that bubble brain. I learnt to do it during an online writing course I did while we lived in Khartoum. I think your knowledge and enthusiasm would benefit all who want to visit the Grand Canyon and for someone like me, I visit there through your eyes (and blog and the upcoming book!) Have a great day. (((Hugs))) Jo
Oh I forgot to say: I simply LOVE the clear photo you have of that falcon on the fence. Is it a regular visitor to your garden? (((Hugs))) Jo
Thanks Jo. That’s a Coopers Hawk.
I’ve used bubble brain for decades and it helps to get my ideas together.
It’s definitely not hard to write 1000 words a day. During the NATO bombing here I did just that, and more, and self-published a book, though that wasn’t my intent when it all started.
Go for it. I’m going to check out your link…
The commitment is the hard part. I need to do the same with learning French but there is always something to distract me…… Good luck. Diane
And I’m very practiced at procrastination. Oui, oui. 😉
I would much rather be planning and researching my holiday if I was you
I’m working on that too.
Be sure to let people know it can be cold up there. I’ve seen so many people come up in May in tank tops and shorts and looking miserable. You need at least a sweatshirt or sweater even in July sometimes.
I certainly will. If you think of anything else, let me know. The list is long.
I look forward in your e-book, I think writing about what you love will make things somewhat easier. Keep up the good work!
This is a really great project. I would be on your list when you finish please? No, it shouldn’t be hard to write 1000 a day but it depends on which 1000 they are… I am lucky if I get 500 some days.
All my regular readers will be eligible for a free copy of this eBook. I probably do easily write 1000 words a day, but not all on the book.
The computer can get so distracting sometimes. I think if you didn’t think about the 1000 word bit you wouldn’t feel overwhelmed. My students always talk about the word requirements in their writing. And I always respond…..just write……and after your done, you’ll be surprised;) I know I’ll read your book….another question you forgot to ask…..will it be available on Kindle?:) Hehe….
Is that a Coopers? Because I think I’m in love:)
1000 words can come pretty quickly and I’m sure I type that many every day, just not always on the eBook. Yes, I believe I’ll make it available on Kindle. And yes, that’s a Coopers, I see them around quite frequently.
