Two nights before I left the North Rim I made it to Cape Royal for my last sunset over the canyon for several months to come. The amazing light and the shadow shapes captured my imagination.
The resident Cape Royal Ravens hung around as if to say goodbye.
Ah, the golden hour.
When shadows fill the canyon.
And the temples glow.
Casting sharp-edged shadow copies of the terrain.
As the sun set the crescent moon showed.
I reluctantly bid good night and goodbye to the Grand Canyon vowing to return in the spring.
Tour more of the world at Our World Tuesday.
That is really beautiful. I remember trying to find a sacred place to take shots and just sit and watch the sunset but there were people all along the edges. Finally we found a spot and just watched the entire thing. Beautiful time of the day like your shots suggest:)
If you’re on the South Rim it’s not as easy to find a secluded space along the rim, although there are some. On the North Rim, a different story.
PS. You have a very patient hand with the camera to get those incredible colors and photos. I like your tripod use. I need to learn to take the time and use mine:)
Some of these shots were on the tripod. There are times when it is indispensable.
Wow, those are amazing photos!
The shadows play an integral part of the whole scenery. Nice shots!
Beautiful!
Your photos are fantastic, Gaelyn, and you have captured the very best of the beauty of the park!! Awesome colors!! Must be a bit hard to say goodbye!! Thanks for sharing these!! Have a great week!
Thanks Sylvia. I am always glad the season is over but sad to say goodbye.
Beautiful
I loved looking at your excellent photos, How will you manage the next few months without that scenery to feed the soul?
Thanks Marie. It’s not easy to say goodbye to the canyon but I have some other gorgeous places lined up for this winter.
Gaelyn, beautiful images of the Grans Canyon! I love the colors, lighting and the neat shadows. Thanks for sharing, have a great week!
Always a breathtaking place whether in excellent photography such as yours or being there ~ Beautiful ~ (A Creative Harbor) ^_^
Hope we all get lucky as you to enjoy the beauty of the canyon day in and out.
Spectacular views. Lovely colors. And they will be waiting right there for you in the Spring. MB
Time flies and before you know it, you will be back at the North Rim taking more of these beautiful photos.
The time flies far too fast yet I’ll be happy to return in the spring. Hope you are well in Minn.
These photographs just make me sigh they are so beautiful. I can imagine the two edged sword of being glad your responsibilities are over but sad to leave such a gorgeous place.
Thanks, I was exceedingly happy with how these images turned out.
What a great goodbye! What a great view.
No bad views of the Grand Canyon. 😉

Golden hour in the Grand Canyon must be the absolute best time to experience the true beauty of the place. Absolutely stunning. I can yet again see why you want to live and work there.
It’s magic! Yet you also live in a beautiful place that I’m longing to return to.
Peace, serenity….
Truly a golden hour in such a beautiful place, Gaelyn.
