Yes, it’s that time of year again for my season as a Park Ranger at Grand Canyon to end. Good thing as it’s already snowed once. I don’t much like cold winter and would gladly live in perpetual summer with a fall and spring thrown in once in a while. Don’t get me wrong. I LOVE my job and the canyon. But six months is enough to work anywhere. It’s time to PLAY!
This is not mine, but I’m shopping
Many plans are running around in my head. I really didn’t GO anywhere last winter and my feet itch SO bad. I just can’t wait to travel. Had thought about a road trip to the Pacific Northwest with my friend Berta. But I really don’t want to haul the big 5th-wheel that I call home that far. I’ve been looking for a slide-in cabover camper, but shopping from the North Rim ain’t easy. I’m still looking. And besides it’s getting to be winter in the north. Nuff said. So if I can quickly find a camper when I’m back closer to civilization and more choices we might take a desert road trip, to who knows where. Maybe southern Arizona, Joshua Tree National Park, Death Valley…..
I’ve signed up for the January New Media Expo in Las Vegas. It will be my first time to any kind of blog/internet related conference so I really don’t know what to expect yet hope to do a lot of networking.
All summer I’ve been working on a plan to go to Central America for a few months, January, February, March, we’ll see. I have lists of places I want to visit and experience. But that’s a whole nother post.
So today is my last day of work, I’ll pack this weekend and then pull out Monday and head to Flagstaff for a few days.
This does not mean the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park is closing. Attempts will be made to keep this side of the park open until the morning of November 26th, unless measurable snow closes Highway 67 before that. And please remember, the South Rim is open all year.
I love that you only work six months and then it’s play time! Your plans sound exiting and I look forward to reading about your travels. Gaelyn, thanks for your kind words on my posts about the little ones. They should hopefully be finished with therapy on Sunday and as it’s summer in SA now, hopefully no more colds or chest problems. Have a great weekend. (((Hugs))) Jo PS Are those trees aspens? I’m asking not checking as I love trees and can’t remember if you’ve told us before! xxx
Yes, we have aspen but in this snowy shot those are ponderosa pine. Glad to here those kids will get back home and have a summer of fun.
I know how it is. I’m such a wanderlust. If I could just travel around the US on backroads the rest of my life, it would be wonderful.
I could do that too, and have. Time it’s time for me to move on to other countries.
It seems like you just got there!!
Not to me.
Well, we love Joshua Tree and it isn’t that far from you…Wherever you go, I’ll look forward to pics!
…let play time begin!!
It’s nice to know that we can “follow” along where ever you go. It is sure to be an adventure.
We have a TC and my advice is to really do some homework on matching one with your truck. The weight on top is a whole different thing from hauling weight. check out http://www.truckcampermagazine.com for lots of good info.
Thanks for the advice Bonnie. I’ve had cabovers before and you are right about getting a good match. I do have a 1 ton truck.
Six months of free time and a new camper sounds like a perfect plan…Sure wish I had that kind of time. If you make it to Joshua Tree, I’ll try to cruise down off the mountain and say hello. I don’t need much excuse to head out that way for a day:)
I like the six months work and six months not. I will let you know if I head to JT.
You sure don’t like to stay in one place! I’m not much better, when we return from a trip I usually say I’m done with traveling, that lasts about a week.
There is so much to see in this world and I want to make a dent in it.
Yay! I can’t believe the summer is already over and it’s time to close up camp. I’ll be waiting anxiously to see where you take us next. 🙂
I will try to keep you posted.
Happy vacation…can’t wait to how your plans work out…. one thing I already know is you’ll have fun no matter what! The camper sounds like a good deal. We’ve had fun with our little class B (Roadtrek van)…takes a little getting used to after the big rig and you wouldn’t want to do it forever. It’s definitely camping.
Oh how cool! Are you thinking about overlanding to Central America with the truck camper? I’ve been following a few bloggers who are doing the full Pan-Am Highway down to South America….ah, someday (God willing)!!! Enjoy your shopping and playtime travels!
The truck camper is for more local play. I plan to fly to Central America and just travel around for while to see what I can see. Many years ago I traveled in a truck camper with x-husband into a large portion of Mexico. Follow your dreams.
Can’t wait to hear more about Central America, and follow along. It’s someplace I’ve never been.
What fun you are going to have. Central America sounds like a fun thing to do—maybe. We have had the very best summer ever, not too hot , sun everyday. In fact they (whoever they are) say we had 82 days with out rain.—Pretty good for the PNW. But the rains have started and I miss that ole sun. EW is nice. Sunny and so pretty in Ritzville right now. So I say Via Con dios and Enjoy. Let us all know about the LV thing. MB
Since we missed you at the North Rim, maybe we can meet up this winter. We’ll probably be in Anza Borrego for part of January, then on to AZ. You mentioned Central America, we’re spending the month of February in Roatan, Honduras!
We will catch up to each other, eventually. Possibly Anza Borrego, or AZ. Thinking of CA in Feb & March. Look forward to hearing about your trip.
Have fun on your travels, I’d love to have 6 months to hit the road or whatever. Looking forward to your adventures.
It’s a nice balance six on and six off.
So your annual long “unemployed” “forced but not minded” holiday has started. Enjoy the time off and the exploring.
Exciting winter ahead and thinking about the NMX must be fun…
