The top layer of the Supai group is sandstone, well worn by erosion that gives the rock a rather soft look. Early in the morning I caught the brilliant light casting shadows across the esplanade.
To view more shadows go to Shadow Shot Sunday 2.

Wonderful shadow shot for the day and such beautiful colors! Love it! Hope you have a great weekend, Gaelyn! Enjoy!
Shadows here, shadows there. Nice shot and great color. MB
BTW: In you previous post you mentions the disappearing farm land—it is happening everywhere. Mostly the dairy farms here and along with the cows the corn fields disappear too. But most of the farms here are family and they just learned to diversify. Like we all have to do. Right!!! MB
I understand diversity and adaptation, but I want to eat real food not chemicals.
Love the variety of shadowy shapes on this eroded sandstone! Grand photo!
Beautiful scenery!
Vegetable Universe Shadows
Have an enjoyable weekend!
I’m always amazed to see the vegetation that thrives in these areas of rock.
Lots of pinyon and juniper.
Nice capture of morning in the desert. I haven’t experienced it in say, oh uh, 45 years. Time for a refresher I think.
I think you should plan a vacation this way for next summer. I’d love to give your family the royal tour of the canyon.
Beautiful shadow and light shot, Gaelyn. It all looks so peaceful there. Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend, (((Hugs))) Jo
Beautiful forms and colors. Living in the midwest as I do, I always feel as if I’m glimpsing another planet when I see photos from out west.
🙂
After just visiting the midwest I know what you mean. Yet there is beauty everywhere if we just look for it.
It’s good to get up early….
Not something I normally do.
I always love your shadow photos, it makes me wonder why I have not got one single photo on my blog that is a shadow……. Time to remedy that when the sun comes out, rain, rain and more rain today!! Take care Diane
Thanks Diane. I’ll bet you have all kinds of good shadows in your house. Just in case the sun doesn’t show for a while.
Wonderful capture of the colors and the shadows. Happy Sunday, Gaelyn!
Stunning shot, I love watching light seeming to change the contours of rock over time 🙂
The uneven topography does make for good shadows.
Arizona’s early morning light is always worth greeting, camera in hand!
It sure is.
I love how the sun makes the color pop on this rock. The mornings and evenings are the best times to really enjoy the rock formations with all the shadowplay.
I love the shadowplay.
Beautiful southwest shadows!
Nothing like early morning light to enhance a picture
