Trying to cram a 40 year reunion into four days of visiting may have aged me.
Left the fall beauty of the North Rim Wednesday before noon.
Then drove to Las Vegas to catch a flight to Chicago.
After landing at 6am, I picked up the rental car and headed to the suburbs. Of course I drove by the old homestead.
Felt a little lost most of the time as old landmarks had disappeared. Most of the street names seemed familiar. It was more like visiting a new place than going home. Yet my schoolmate and hostess Sandee made me feel right at home in her beautiful house where I had my own room with a most comfortable bed.
Before going to the first reunion function Thursday night I filled a food craving at Portillo’s, Italian Beef. Only authentic in Chicago.
There’s so much more to tell.
Tour more of the world at Our World Tuesday.
There is only so much you can do in a short space of time and you seem to have more than filled that time up!!! Love your photos and very colourful. Have a good week, Diane
I kept very busy.
I haven’t returned to my Ohio hometown in 20 years since the last time I was there and it looked like some place I’d never been and worse than when I left. Hope you had a great time going “home”, though nothing can compare with the canyon.
It was like exploring a new place.
Told ya you’d have a good time! Been following your escapades on Facebook. Love these nostalgic photos….
You were right.
Hello there:) I missed you. I can only imagine the things you felt going back. I get where you’re coming from Your meal sounded delightful. The weather looks very nice. It’s hard to get everything into 4 days but I’m sure you’ll make the best of it:)
I have been out and about in the wilderness. Lately I’ve been running out from my job and just standing in the middle of the heat searching for critters. This weekend was another fun one. Kathie and I went to Saguaro and had a great time. When you get some time, come to Tucson. We’re the other attractive side of the state. Phoenix is a stain:) Well not really….just glad it’s a hundred miles away. It would be so much fun to take you around Southern Arizona. Look forward to your jaunts around Chicago et al:)
Gee, thanks for missing me Chris.
I will certainly get down to your, and Kathie’s, neck of the desert this winter. Totally agree about the pit of Phoenix.
Must have been so much fun!
Beautiful captures!
That’s a long way to go for a sandwich! Hope you had a great time at the reunion.
Had a great time. And the sandwich was delicious.
That’s terrific, Gaelyn!! I’m sure you’ll cram lots of fun and create lots of great memories as well as enjoy all of those favorites of Chicago! Enjoy and make the most of every minute! Thanks for sharing the fun!
Wonderful snapshots Gaelyn! I’m so glad you got to go. it sounds like you had fun!
Had a blast. More posts coming.
Oh gosh — we come back to this part of Oregon (where we lived for 30 years) every summer and every year it has changed…I can only imagine what it would be like to go “home” after all that time. And it’s always poignant to visit “the old homestead.”
Looks like a fun trip going back in time to your youth. My family moved a lot. I doubt I would recognize any of my old family homes.
It is so much fun traveling along with you and sharing these great memories!
I was on leave last week and didn’t read any blog. This week had to catch up and do a bunch of reports, but finally catching up again. I always try to revisit memories. Old ones and more recent ones.
I hope you had a great vacation and am looking forward to reading about it. I take mass amounts of photos for the memories of my future.
