My drive into the forest to seek fall colors took me to the end of Forest Road 610 in the Kaibab National Forest and the Saddle Mountain trailhead.
Such a Grand view. To the southeast across the canyon the Little Colorado River cuts through Navajo land.
To the northeast the Colorado River cuts through the Marble Plateau with the Vermilion Cliffs barely visible in the distance.
A few penstemon still linger near the warm rim.
The trail called my name, but shadows grew long.
I paused a moment to see who’d been carving on the trees.
Then hit the road home through the colorful fall aspen.
To tour more of the world go to Our World Tuesday.
Wonderful photographs as always. Thanks for naming the flowers. I will never remember, but for today I know what a pestemon is! I have seen them but never knew what to call them! Love the low shot of the aspens, great perspective!
Geri, we saw penstemon when you were here.
Beautiful country… really enjoyed trip west this past summer
I don’t think I’ve been to that trailhead. I see there’s horseback riding, so perhaps we should go!
Lovely views, and that last aspen shot is great.
I think the only way I’d take that trail is on horseback. Bring em on down.
Beautiful views. I’m torn between the Grand Canyon and Alaska for next summer.
As much as I love the canyon, I’d go to Alaska in a heart beat.
Wow, so beautiful. I love these trips with you. Take care Diane
The rocks themselves are the colors of fall. Just beautiful. Love those aspen shots. What a lovely spot even if you didn’t do the trail “this time”.
You’re right Sherry, the rocks are fall colors. Not sure I’ll ever walk that trail as I’ve heard horror stories.
Beautiful views of the canyon. The colors and flowers are pretty. The Aspens are my favorite, they are gorgeous trees. Great post, Gaelyn!
Beautiful views and lovely fall color. Our fall color is now mostly on the ground. Sigh…..
Our color will be on the ground soon too, especially with today’s wind.
How beautiful early fall is there! How long will you get to stay?
I’m here until October 23rd. Then haul the 5er back to Yarnell and thinking of a little trip to the PNW with a friend.
You are making me fall sick:) Those last sets of shots are so beautiful. And finally I see that stretch of green plateau that I’ve heard about from the park interpreter last time we went to visit. Nice grand shots of the whole area. You must get tired after a day of all that fresh air:)
I do get tired but never of the view and it’s the good kind of tired.
Fabulous fal! Can you believe it’s that time already?
I do love fall, but am not anxious for winter.
Beautiful work …
Have a great evening! 🙂
Once again I am left with that feeling of awe and wonder at the scope of natural beauty in which you are surrounded. The final picture of the aspens is the epitome of images of the fall.
Gaelyn, this is just beautiful!
Views so magnificent I can’t help but to be amazed every time you show them to us. Stunning as always
Who wouldn’t love to explore that place, with my busy schedule I wish I would have some time to take a break and visit the place, for sure the entire tour will be something memorable.
