Vultures may not win a standard beauty contest yet deserve the crown as scavengers.
Celebrate and watch them soar.
Second submission to Shadow Shot Sunday 2, because I just couldn’t resist.

They apparently also deserve a crown for the stunning shadows they cast on stones! Bravo!
Recipe for Shadows
Thanks. I had to dig that one out of the archives.
A beautiful capture!
Come see my shadow
Cool shot. We have those red headed Turkey Vultures here. Lots around lately. I ain’t dead Yet!! Anytime there is any haying done the vultures are around looking for lunch. MB
MB, I also worry just a little when I see the vultures soaring over me when I stop for a snack while hiking.
They do a job for which we should all be grateful! I have to laugh at your comment above — in Florida we often see turkey vultures circling above the canal in the evening (usually when we’re sitting there enjoying a glass of wine … I always take it as my sign that it is definitely time to get up and MOVE!)
A dirty job that some have to do. And motivation to move. 😉
In Florida there is a park on the Suwanee River that has a flock of black vultures that like to roost on the pier out into the river. Boy are they ugly. But we’d be in bad shape without them. I mean who would clean up all that road kill. Think of the thousands of dollars worth of public service work they do. Here’s to Vultures! I’m aware!
It’s true Sherry, the vultures do put in a lot of volunteer time and do us a great service.
This is the most amazing shadow shot I have seen. You definitely were at the right place at the right time.
I really did luck out on this shadow shot for sure.
I’ve become a real fan of them. I don’t want one for a pet though.
No Yogi, I wouldn’t want one for a pet either, but love to watch them soar.
They’re not pretty, but I like ’em. And your photo.
Thanks Bibi. I think they are rather cute.
Love this shot. Diane
Its sad how vultures are misunderstood and get poisoned by uninformed farmers
Glad they get their day! Vultures are cool birds to have around. I love them all. Their diet makes me a little green…..but I can always turn my head until they’re finished:)
