Sharing a meal with friends in the Grand Lodge started the day.
A day of celebration, Native American Heritage Days at the North Rim August 9th and 10th.
A Hopi family shared their art of woven baskets, blown glass and carved kachinas.
A group of Zuni youth shared social dances.
A young Hopi boy shared the eagle dance.
Then joined his father in the hoop dance, which represents all cultures of the world.
Sharing, that’s what Native American Heritage Days is all about at the North Rim.
Sharing Grand Canyon is something I love to do. Come for a visit and I’ll share it with you.
People share from around the world on Our World Tuesday.
It looks like a wonderful day for everyone who got to attend.
Looks like a fun day at the park. 🙂 I’ll bet it was hot as hell there too! The little boy int he eagle costume looked like areal bird when he squatted. I miss Arizona. In the winter, not the summer . . .
Never really gets Hot at the North Rim. Wasn’t past 80.
I’d like to see the dances in person. One of these days…
I hope you do get here to see this Sally. Maybe next year. The dances were fabulous. I took videos but was asked not to post them.
I love their artwork!
The art was a nice mix of traditional and contemporary Esther. Wish I’d taken photos of the jewelry.
I would love to have been with you , I so enjoy what different cultures make, eat and dance. It looks quite different from what I am used to in S.A. Enjoy your day. Diane
The dances were all amazing Diane. I just wish I could show some of the videos.
What a fun day! Luigi was a riot and the eggs benedict I had were YUMMY! I wish I had been able to go to the dances, but seeing your photos and Chucks photos help me to enoy them too! Coming from the wonderful cool canyon temps back to the 100’s in Page was a schocker, but rain every afternoon has helped cool it down! Keep up the good work Ranger Gaelyn!
Geri I am So sorry you couldn’t join us at the dancing. Was amazing. It felt hot here at 80 with high humidity. But I’m sure not like Page. Back out onto the Walhalla today.
What fun! I will, will get to you.
Bibi, I know you’ll get here someday.
Sharing….something we all should do as a way of life.
The Stillaguamish Tribes had their Salmon sharing days last weekend. Always a good go to event. I couldn’t go this year because this d#*$ned knee.
Love the Eagle dance and everything else too. MB
MB, I wish we would all share more often.
I would so love to be there for this event. Your pictures are great. I’m sorry that your one friend became ill and missed the dances. (I think I recognize the other lady (from her bolog) and it is surely good to see her out and about!
Sallie, you really should try to make it here, and for the festival would be grand. I believe you recognized FabGrandma, and yes it is nice she is out and about.
Wow!!! That shot of the kiddo in the eagle/hawk dress is awesome. S/he? really looks like the bird in disquise. You have the best job in the world. Gorgeous skies, amazing people coming and going….nature. As I write this, I’m off to the University for a meeting until 7:( Bah humbug. Hope your night is better:)
Father of the young boy eagle dancer asked for no faces shown in posted photos. They make quite a team. I do have the best job in the world, and many wonderful friends, real and virtual. Sorry about the “bah humbug” meeting Rohrerbot. It’s my Friday. Tomorrow I’ll drive to Yarnell for a Thurs. dentist appointment and back on Friday. I wish my weekends were better and more fun. Suppose you’ll be returning to school soon.
Looks like a great time to be at the canyon.
There’s no bad time to be at the canyon Yogi.
We have seen the dancers at the South Rim by the Hopi House but not at the North Rim. Have to put that on my list now. I think the dancing is beautiful and am so glad that these traditions of crafts and dancing have not been lost for all the efforts our ancestors took to try to extinguish them. What a great life you are living to be in such a terrific place!

Hmmm I just left a comment that apparently disappeared. Probably can’t recreate it but I’m really happy to see the crafts and dancing at the North Rim. We saw really fine Native dancing at the South Rim near the Hopi House. It’s wonderful that those cultural skills have been kept alive in spite of all the determined efforts of our ancestors to wipe them out. You surely are in a wonderful place for the summer. I’d love to be right there with you. Just sign me up.

If I ever get to visit you in the Canyon I would love to get my hands on a couple of authentic Native American pieces. I wouldn’t mind one or two smaller pieces I can wear around my neck
