Maybe because they don’t know the words.
The broad-tailed hummingbird is quite noisy with its shrill whistling.
The new feeder is working out quite well. None have flown into the window, at least not while I’ve been watching.
The rufous hummingbird has a subdued humming.
Now I’ve seen, and heard, the three most common hummingbirds that visit Grand Canyon’s North Rim. Just need to get a better shot of the black-chinned.
These shots were taken with the old Fuji because the Nikon just doesn’t do a great job with close ups through tinted windows. Or maybe it’s just me needing to learn more.
Hope you’ll fly off to Our World Tuesday and discover more of the world.
I am always surprised at how loud these little hummers are!
Their sounds are tranquilizing and calming to me. They have a friendly nature about them. Nice photos.
…don’t know the words…I’m still chuckling. Love how the new feeder is attracting them to your window. Now you need to mic the feeder to capture the sounds, too.
Wow, such great pictures!
Great shots Gaylen!!! I have a feeder just like that, packed away where I can’t reach it because of the stuck slide room! That will all be fixed Wednesday we hope! Just wanted you to know we loved the hummer photographs!
I’ve never seen a ‘seated’ hummingbird! They’re always busy flying when I see them. Anything taken through a window isn’t so great; loses sharpness, color…use manual if you can. In India I took quite a few from a moving vehicle with windows up and a fair amount came out okay.
Your hummingbird photos are fantastic. Hard to get those little critters to sit still!
Wonderful Gaelyn! And I find that when I shoot through tinted windows that my photos improve a lot once I offload them into Picture Project and auto-improve them. It darkens the background and gets rid of that filmy look. Perhaps your photo processing program has something similar?
Great shots, I don’t think I have ever heard a humming bird, or at least i have not realised what they were. Diane
I do love your hummingbirds and I always wondered how they got their name — makes perfect sense — I hum when I don’t know the words, but I’m surely not as cute as they are and don’t sound as good either!! Terrific captures and thanks for the smiles! Hope all of you have a great week!!
WOW! Love that fuchsia neckup!
Always keep your old camera handy is my motto. Great shots.
Now that is what I call fantastic! I’m STILL waiting to capture a Rufous. Your pics are great. That male Broad Tail is a real treat. Isn’t it amazing what a cheap little feeder can do? A little treat for friends AND keep you constantly looking out the window for a quick visit from a friend. I always consider hummers like a chihuahua…but maybe smarter:) They know where the windows are unlike several of my mourning doves and finches:) But the cats have fun watching the show outside. Great pics! Thanks for sharing your fun.
Wonderful that you can see this sweet hummingbird right through your window.
Glad to see that new feeder is working so well. I’m envious!
Those pictures are incredible. I have only ever seen humming birds hover.
Do get anything like that in my garden! I’m going to have to organise to see some of these birds soon, I just know it!
Great shots.

You got some pretty crisp photos for as fast as those suckers fly!
And there’s nothin’ cuter than a baby hummingbird, too. These pics are adorable.
You certainly got some wonderful shots. I just love these little birds. Great placement of the feeder.
I think I need to get a couple of feeders like these to attract sunbirds
