I left Hurricane and headed into monsoon. That really sounds worse than it was.
It was a dark and stormy drive.
Raining to the north over Zion National Park.
And it rained enough to wash most of the bugs off the windshield.
As I approached Colorado City the sky blackened, then poured.
And beyond that the thickened sky dropped to the ground.
I headed south and clouds hung above the Kaibab Plateau.
And as I approached Jacob Lake fog filled the forest.
From there the clouds took on some interesting shapes…
…and the sun made a final effort.
I craned my neck for a rainbow that didn’t show.
But was just a threat of heavy rain because only sprinkles feel the rest of the way home.
Hopefully you can see clearer skies by visiting Sky Watch Friday.
At least it wasn’t a boring drive home! The Okanogan area got pounded on Sunday…Hwy 97 was down to a single lane near Malott because of a mud slide and washing the road out.
Fantastic set of very beautiful photos for SWF!Thank you for sharing and have a nice weekend!
Beautiful stormy drive! I really love to be out in weather like that with the ions popping all around. Reminds me of a Prescott to Kingman drive I took a few years ago with the weather clearly in view on the road ahead.
Have a great Summer and thanks for sharing!
It was a dark and stormy drive. It makes for a dramatic and interesting series of photos!
Beautifully captured.
My Sky shots.
Have a nice weekend!
What a terrific variety of stormy, awesome, dramatic skies! You did catch some great ones, Gaelyn! I I love the ones where I can see the rain falling in the distance and the fog! Terrific! Hope you have a great weekend!!
Beautiful series of shots. We had rain here in Michigan for two days now and hope that we are not going to have this tremendous heat wave. ^_^ Happy weekend!

What great cloud pictures. Such variety. So ominous. Really nice.
Interesting drive home! The day after your visit, we had hail and a tornado sighting! Glad you made it home safe!
Great series of pics, You are pretty close to having the lyrics to a country song with your captions.
You are one lucky person! Did you have your windows open in between the rain? It looks like some wonderful weather. Hopefully we’ll get some tomorrow. Have a good night!
I love all these open road shots… they are my favorite! And the smell of the high desert during a good rain.
wonderful to take a drive with you ~
Enjoyed this rainy ride with you. And washing off bugs reminds me of the joke:
How can you tell if a motorcyclist is happy? –By the bugs on his teeth.

Hi there – I like the way most of the images contain some of the same elements – road lines or window splashes.
Nice post.

Do you suppose we passed each other through that storm? 🙂
It was definitely dark and stormy. Glad you didn’t have any trouble on the drive.
Driving from Knysna back to Port Elizabeth last weekend we drove in torrential rains, most of the time at a snail’s pase.
We had a stormy day or two last week too ,but this is Oregon — it rains. You sure had an interesting drive anyway and your pictures are excellent. (I’d rather look at them than drive ).
