Last week I stopped by the Ace Hardware in Hurricane at the suggestion of Chuck and Geri for a combination thermometer/hygrometer which measures humidity (I had to look that up) and it sticks to the window, until I want to move.
While there I also bought a window hanging hummingbird feeder. I’m hoping this doesn’t cause any window collisions.
So I washed the windows. That’s quite an accomplishment for me as I don’t do windows. At least not until I can’t see out of them anymore.
First try hanging the hummingbird feeder one of the suction cups gave way and half the sugar water dribbled down the window and bumper. After cleaning up the mess I think I hung it straight.
Seems to be working as my first black-chinned hummer arrived about 30 minutes later.
Now I just have to figure out how to take a better photo through the window.
Hope to see the other two species found at Grand Canyon, broad-tailed and rufous.
I have always wanted one of those hummer feeders. You are inspiring me. But I’ve never found those stick on thermometers to work. They always get frozen at one temperature and then never move. Hope yours is better.
Nice!!! I love that feeder and am glad you have visitors already!!! Sometimes it takes weeks for them to discover them:) Hope you get to see the rest of them. I’m not one for cleaning windows either….not my favorite chore:)
I would so love to be able to have hummingbirds at my window, but they don’t come this far north. You can find hummingbird feeders in the box stores though, and since we have a large military and transient population they probably even sell a few of them. Hmmm, I should get out and wash my windows too, but we’ve got a couple of days of rainy weather forecast, so guess I’ll have to put it off yet again. Sigh.
That’s a nice feeder. Not sure how your camera is set up, but you might want to try a single center spot focus setting (it works great for things like macro shots or capturing a hummer… it will focus precisely on the object you put the focus point on). Good shooting!
The birds are so rewarding aren’t they, coming to see your nice clean windows,ha-ha! Good on you for doing both those jobs. I don’t do windows at all. When I can’t see out of them, Pendo brings a bucket and a cloth and does the job for me! Have a great day. Jo
I cleaned our windows a few years ago. I’m thinking about doing it again but am waiting until no light at all comes through.
Short range photos through glass is hard for me, but I’m not as smart as you.
Great shots, Gaelyn. I’ve had hummingbird feeders, but never such luck at getting the little fellows (or gals…) to stop and feed.
That is just so cool, Gaelyn! What a perfect way to enjoy the hummingbirds visits.
So cute. I want one of those. Cute little guys.
What a beautiful way to have your hummer friends visit! They can watch you while they eat, kind of like tv……. 🙂
Love your feeder and hummer shots.
hmmm…..learned a new word (hydrometer of course) and found something I want (although if the hummingbird feeder means I’d have to wash the windows maybe not)! I like the window shots and hope you get the other two varieties as well.
