I love being back at Grand Canyon, Rangering around. Roving trails talking to visitors, answering questions, helping visitors plan their visit in the visitor center, presenting programs about geology, condors and Ancestral Puebloans. Soon there will be more programs.
Yet I once again forgot how much time working 40+ hours a week takes out of life. My “to do” list keeps getting longer. I’m struggling a little keeping up with blog reading and I like knowing what everyone is doing. I tend to read first and write second.
Seems like there’s always so much to do. I signed up for a travel writing class in April and haven’t gotten past the first lesson. Still learning how the new camera works and always wait until the last minute to figure out settings. Like for the eclipse when I took over 100 photos with a solar filter and am now processing them and trying to put a really good combination of shots together. Note to self: Do not try to learn new software with a special project.
On top of that the laundry is building up as are the dirty dishes and my house is a mess. I need a maid.
So if it seems I’m not around commenting on your posts, I’m often reading but run out of time to comment.
How do you all manage your time to get everything done?
Managing time is my biggest issue – I am very jealous of my personal time. It’s our most valuable commodity.
And as much as I love my job, it sure takes away from a lot of my personal time.
Between working full time, bike commuting to and from work, practicing martial arts at the dojang three nights each week, playing in the women’s soccer league and spending weekends bike touring, rock climbing and hiking… it’s a wonder I have any time left over at all 🙂
It’s a choreographed dance. Sometimes, laundry doesn’t get done. Socks get recycled. Five different gear bags sit on the living room floor, overflowing with the gear for the next activity. I’ve learned to keep my gear super-organized, cleaned, prepped and ready to roll; that’s the only secret I’ve got. That, and making meals well in advance so I can toss ’em in my bike bags.
I’m glad you’re still making time to share your words and thoughts; it’s always a treat to stop by and see what new and amazing sights you’re enjoying.
Have a wonderful summer- don’t worry, you have the winter to catch up on things like dishes 🙂
Not sure how you keep up with all these activities, but know you enjoy them all.
I am not domestic and don’t even like to cook. Kind of a toss up between wasting water washing dishes or throwing away paper plates. Going to have to practice a few new steps in the dance.
I hear ya! Even working from home doesn’t help with my to-do list much. Although I do manage to get laundry done. 🙂
Being retired and full-time RVers certainly helps. Most times we don’t have a “time schedule” other than to explore our current location, take those photos, and try to maintain a somewhat interesting travel blog. However…the laundry is always put off until we no longer have clothes to wear, and can’t maneuver around a tiny bedroom space…like about now!
That’s my winter schedule. Have two days off and laundry has to happen as I’m out of uniforms.
Just enjoy your time at the park. The dishes will wait.
But I’m eating with my fingers out of the pan. 😉
Work (even when you love it!) has a way of interfering with life! Actually I can never imagine how you can have a full-time job and do such a gorgeous blog. I didn’t start blogging until I was retired. I’m happy if you just post your beautiful pix when you have time and am thrilled if you have time to visit me once in a while… and understand completely when you don’t have time..
I love the term “rangering around” to describe the great work you do.
I get a lot less sleep in the summer.
I can certainly sympathize. I don’t know how I managed to get ANYTHING done when I was working! So just relax, you’ll manage to get it done and you’ll soon get back into a routine that works for you.

Impossible to do it all. Have to pick and choose. I tend to let the housework sit till the last minute. Like doing laundry only every 2 weeks. Paper plates help with the dishes. I don’t cook much, eat mostly fruits and veges – no dirty pots. So many places to go, so much to see. I wanted to do travel writing too, I think I subscribed to someones website about that – but have not done anything about it.
I hate housework and only do laundry every two weeks. Thank goodness I have the next two days in a row off as I’m out of clean uniforms.
I’m signed up with MatadorU. Thank goodness I choose my own time frame and have literally forever.
I can only imagine how busy you are! Keep enjoying your work and don’t stress about the rest. I love “visiting” you at the Canyon.
Hope you can visit in real time one of these days.
Had the same problem when I was teaching….now I have more free time and more projects, and sometimes I still don’t get everything done.
I’ve heard this about retirement.
🙂 Work, photography, etc…..our roles have reversed:) Summer has arrived and this teacher is DONE! Here is what I’ve had to do….which is a bit crazy. I get up early…about an hour early each day……read blogs. Learn lots and smile. It makes me feel good. Then I head to work….work….work….and then I get home….do chores, feed the birds, and then sit down with my other half “pretending” to watch the terrible tv and respond to comments, comment, etc etc:) I preview the post for the next day and look over my work to make sure there aren’t any mistakes etc. On the weekend, I do my hiking, photography, and writing….and have fun:) Yes….it’s a bit much at times, but I feel smarter after I read from everyone’s posts:) Hang in there!
I know how happy you must be that school is Done. Now you’ll have more time to play.
I love reading blogs and keeping up with my online friends. So get out there and take some photos to share. 😉
Lack of time to do everything I want to do is certainly one of my biggest frustrations, so I can relate. I often wonder if I will be able to afford to retire in a few years and what it will be like? Then will I have time to do everything I want to do? (probably not!).
Even during my winter time of retirement I don’t get everything I Want to do done. Can we add a few extra hours to the day? 😉
How do I manage my time to get everything done? I don’t get everything done.
Working full time, pursuing hobbies, volunteering, family time, etc eats up most of my time. I love reading blogs (like yours) but rarely have time to comment and find I am blogging a lot less than I used to. I have given up TV (no loss) and no longer play computer games. Not that I was a big gamer, but there are plenty of ways to waste time. It is all about balance, which is a very individual thing. I think we know when our lives are out of balance.
Hee hee. hee hee. Time management? What’s that?
