As much as I love the visitors who come to Grand Canyon there’s something very special about driving Highway 67 into the park and feeling like I own the whole forest.
Even with gates to unlock.
Very little snow remains on the meadows because of the 60F days and the fact that not much snow fell this past winter.
The Forest Service has taken down a lot more trees out of the 2006 Warm Fire burn plus many have fallen in the wind. I really like the skeletal pattern of the standing dead.
Took all these photos early last Friday morning on our way off the Kaibab Plateau and never saw another vehicle for the entire 45 miles to Jacob Lake where we stopped for breakfast. Won’t be like this too much longer because when the gate opens May 15th people come in hordes to the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park.
ahhh, we have been sleeping soooo good because it is soooo quiet
Oh, my! Not another car? Wow….that’s eerie. I’m thinking how much you are enjoying this area without people! Enjoy it while you can, eh? Yes, that’s the fire area I was telling you about. It looks like an alien landscape! How’s the new lens? Isn’t it AWESOME?
with no people or traffic…how is the wildlife sightings?
I think this was also my favorite moment….right before the visitors came. Sometimes I would get up super early just so I could get to work and enjoy my coffee before all the tourists came……it was perfection. So how are the wildlife sightings? Are there many? Enjoy the peace….for now:)
Enjoy the silence. In less than two weeks the hordes will decend and you will be running around like a headless chicken.
How wonderful to savor the peace and quiet, and it’s soo gorgeous, enjoy!
I think I’m going to miss the Grand Canyon this year. Already left Page – just waaayyyy behind in the blog! I’ll enjoy your pictures, though.
You hold the key to the park. How exciting for opening day.
How lovely and peaceful…and also special for an incredibly special woman.
