Taking a road trip can occur near to home or far away. Started out heading down the hill 10 miles for pizza.
Then drove the back road 60 miles home.
Deer Creek Road passes Thompson’s Double Bar Ranch…
…where this gal took notice.
Stopped in Piedmont. Not a soul in sight.
Nothing much there but vast desert landscape. That’s just fine by me.
Further along an orchard of some kind.
But no apples for these beauties. Can’t imagine what they eat out here.
This house perches above Hillside.
Which appears to be closed.
There’s a bird in that nest. See why I ordered that 18-200mm lens.
I enjoyed the wonderfully slow desert drive and will return to explore Traveler Way someday.
Do you have a favorite back road drive?
Well, I love driving up Highway 74, from Palm Desert up to where I board my horses. There is only 1 little community along the way, Pinyon…there are some homes off the road. It has a lot of upspoiled natural wonders and I like it that way. I’m sure you do, too.
Did your pizza get cold? Or maybe you are it in the pizza place. I have a couple of favorite back roads near my cousin’s house in Pa. and some favorite side streets here.
Just such beautiful scenery! We love exploring back roads — always want to know where they go!
I hope that wasn’t a take-out pizza ;>)
We’re in the process of finding a spot to relocate where trees outnumber cars, red barn sightings are commonplace, and the cost of living doesn’t require working ones self to death. This looks SO good to me!
Why yes I do:) My fav drive back is from Flagstaff to Sedona down that slopy canyon….or the million and one roads that no one else drives. There are a lot….but my favorite this year was the drive to the Whitewater Draw near Willcox. It was the most gorgeous day ever ….rainy cold and the scenary was out of this world. Just wait until you get that new lense….you’ll barely use the smaller one:) I can’t wait…especially when you’re at the Canyon….you’re going to go crazy….and get some good shots of the CA Condors:)!!!
It must be getting close to the time when you will report back to the North Rim for another rewarding season at Grand Canyon. Have a great time! We look forward to your posts from your rangering job.
Yes it is. I pull out of here in less than two weeks. Then spend some days in Flagstaff before heading to the North Rim. I’m ready.
I sometimes get distracted and take the long road home. The scenery is worth it! I see some wildflowers among the vegetation.
Hehehe, that’s a very bright blue house!
This is absolutely gorgeous! I guess my favorite drive would be out in my Jeep on any unpaved desert road with long vistas. And any of the roads (paved or not) in Joshua Tree National Park.
There is nothing like following the scenic road. Just a pity fuel is getting more and more expensive. Our went up by quite a lot last night again.
How fabulous to have a beautiful 60-mile back road home :).
