Technology has spread to the wild west.
On the way to Prescott last week I saw these cowboys herding cattle. Now even though I live in the west, this is not something I see everyday.
Drove ahead of them and pulled over to take some photos.
As they rode closer I could clearly see one cowboy talking on a cell phone. Seems it’s the way of the west.
Even though it makes perfect sense for cowboys to be using cellphones it still looks funny to me. Cool shots. 🙂
That is SO brilliant, Gaelyn. What a unique capture. Ironically while I’m in transit (spending the day in Dar) between camp and home in SA, my son is buying me a decent Nokia which should help with a better signal when I return to camp in ten days’ time. I hope so… Have a great weekend. Jo
Could be a real lifesaver if someone gets hurt.

AWESOME! Real cowboys – that’s so cool!! I suppose they could be secretly fond of each other, couldn’t they?
This is akin to how I felt when I first saw Amish contractors using a cell phone.
That’s pretty funny although my rancher relatives in Idaho and Wyoming eschew horses for four wheelers whenever they can.
It did not seem that long ago when my parents used to wind a handle on their house phone to get an operator…… Diane
Times sure have changed! I’m not sure what my horse would have done if I’d starting yakking on a cell phone while riding. Probably would have tossed me on my head (not an infrequent occurrence- even without provocation).
I just sat down to do some reading:) That’s a funny thought. I thought cowboys were extinct….it’s nice to know that they’re still around. I’ll see them once and awhile on the outskirts of Tucson. It’s nice to know they are still around:) On the lense for the bird shoots, I use the 75 to 300 mm. It’s light enough to carry around and mobile enough to rapidly turn and spin. I’m so ready for the weekend:)
What a ‘retro’ shot…except for the phones, of course. Maybe he’s calling for take-out….or b’ring over’
cool! what can i say? i love cow-boys! times sure have changed.
hope your weekend is going well, dear gaelyn!
big hugs.
Does make sense, but isn’t it funny — other than the phone it looks exactly like a scene from an old western movie. Great post.
Gaelyn, oh my, who would have thunk it!
Very funny. The whole romantic view of cowboys get shattered when you see something like this, doesn’t it.
It does seem unexpected to see them using cellphones, especially since there is a lot of the area out there where they don’t work. I’ve never seen the cowboys in Arizona before, so thanks for the pic!
Of course! It does make sense….but who would’ve “thunk” it. Kind’ve changes the image of the cowboy! 🙂
