State Route 93
In celebration of Berta’s birthday we made our sometimes annual trip to Laughlin Nevada. By the end of February, just before spring arrives, I’m more than ready for a drive through the desert.
Although we did see a little snow on the distant mountains.
We arrived plenty early and before crossing into Nevada explored a road running north of Bullhead City winding along the Colorado River.
Fuzzy because I get over excited upon seeing wildlife
This mallard couple seemed to be enjoying the water. And this Killdeer was a lifer for me.
After the leisurely river drive we checked in to our favorite hot tub, I mean hotel. OK so it’s a casino.
View up river from our room through not so clean window
But we didn’t go to gamble. It’s a scenic drive, cheap room with the best beds ever, wildly diverse buffet and delightful hot tub.
On the way home the next day we stopped in Wikieup for lunch and the Italian beef sandwich transported me back in time and space. Having grown up in the Chicago suburbs where Italian beefs may have gotten their start this was a real treat. Sorry no photo as it disappeared quickly.
Even though this place was in the middle of nowhere it was busy. And with the walls being covered in money I guess there must be retirement security.
Also stopped to check out the Burro Creek campground as the area is noted for rockhounding for opalite, jasper and agate. That will have to be another trip.
