After touring the historic boat collection last month when I was at Grand Canyon I drove back out on the Hermit Road stopping at Hopi Point on the way to Hermits Rest. I looked lovingly across canyon at my summer home on the North Rim. Bright Angel Canyon heads north from the river.
Yes, you can see the river. That could be Horn Creek Rapids below. The trail you can see leads to Plateau Point.
Hopi Point overlook also provides a great view down canyon for miles and miles.
And down into the depths of the canyon to the basement rock of gray/green Vishnu schist, pink Zoroaster granite and white quartz.
Many drainages flow into the Colorado River.
Looking up canyon I barely recognize some of the landmarks I so often see from the North Rim, the Deva, Brahma and Zoroaster temples to the left. Further in the distance…
…Wotons Throne and the Vishnu Temple. Clarence Dutton, an early canyon geologist with an interest in cultural mythology named many of the canyons landmarks.
As the sun is quickly westering and I want to see more views of the canyon it is time to move on from Hopi Point. See the river downstream from here too.
I will never get bored of seeing the pictures of the canyon as I am sure you will never get bored with being there 🙂 Diane
I don't care how many times you can see the Grand Canyon, it looks different every time. So beautiful.
Very cool pics! I love all the colors and the photo with the snow on the rim of the canyon. It is such an interesting place!
I never tire of those scenes. So incredible!
I agree with the others — no matter how many times you see it, the canyon is always gorgeous and somehow different each time in some small ways! Awesome captures, Gaelyn!

I'm going to be working at Mesa Verde April 11th to October 26th, then I'm thinking of heading to the Grand Canyon. I'm going to go online and try to reservations in the park. South Rim, of course, this time. I've only been to the North Rim in the past.
The colors this time of year are much purer than in the summer when haze and bright light wash them out.
These are beautiful images of a canyon few of us see this way.
Oh, gee…the colors, the strata, the lighting….
Your pictures make me happy! I can just imagine how you felt standing there.
Wonderful photos.
Regards and best wishes
Amazing pictures, and always a very interesting and informative read. Thanks, Gaelyn.
I wonder, has AZ been as unseasonably warm and dry as we here in CA? I would expect to see more snow in these shots in a normal year.
Anyway, you must be getting antsy to get back over there on the north rim:)
Wow these are awesome photos!

Nature's beauty is wondrous…
The only thing that stops me from being jealous, is I'll be on the North Rim before you. 🙂
I love how each photo has a totally different feel to it. That is the magic of the Grand Canyon, there is no two views the same. It is an ever changing painting!
Great views. I don't think I've ever been to that overlook.
Only in the Grand Canyon can one see so many eons of geology.
I am always amazed by all the colors and layers in those cliffs! Just beautiful Gaelyn!
Oh, wow, those are just beautiful. Most people don't know how difficult it is to get a great shot of the Grand Canyon, but you are really an expert!
Funny how a little change in perspective can make things look so different. You've captured some beautiful views.
You do get some of the best photos I have ever seen of this place.
Beautiful capture of the Grand Canyon. The colors always amaze me. Thanks for sharing, Gaelyn!

I took mine off and then put it back on because Blogger does not do a good job of blocking spammers (WordPress is much better)
You are one lucky lady, living in paradise and all.
The Grand Canyon really is an amazing natural geological marvel.
These are truly some unique and beautiful pictures of the Grand Canyon.
