I received this marvelous bouquet from, are you ready for this, my dentist. Hand delivered by an employee from Prescott Modern Dentistry, 30 miles away. She was happy to get out of the office and make the drive.
Almost two weeks ago I underwent five hours of surgery including bone grafting for the two upper implants for the removable overdenture and four lower implants for the fixed denture. I’ve been sore and miserable since then. Taking hydrocodone for the pain gave me wings most days but also dropped me into a very black hole one day. I can’t bite or chew yet. Healing could take 6-8 weeks so I’ll be on a liquid and soft diet for that long. I have to keep reminding myself that I will be able to bite and chew again, better than I have for many years. I’m dreaming of steak, pizza, popcorn, apples, pistachios, raw vegies, sub-sandwich, almonds, crunchy french fries, corn on the cob, trail mix, crackers, chips…
Dang that made me hungry. Guess I’ll go heat up some sweet potato chicken baby food. Pudding for dessert!
That has got to be the nicest thing ever I have heard of. Enjoy them, and I do hope we can chow down on something delcious toghter soon!
Wow, we need a new dentist….
Everyone here has been through some kind of dental drama, not to the extent you've had, but this too shall pass. Real food is just around the corner!
Gaelyn, Who knew? You poor thing – and I don't think you can afford to lose a lot of weight. Don't worry – I'll eat some of the things on your list for you… PS Some women will do anything for flowers…
Lovely bouquet – how thoughtful of the dentist – accompanied by a bucket of chocolate pudding, I hope.
Your smile is SO BEAUTIFUL! Time will pass and the pain will lesson over time… Then look out apples!
Oh Gaelyn, I do know your pain but how nice of your dentist to think about you. I still dream about a crisp green apple or a thick rare slice of prime rib! Take care.
Smiles
the only thing my dentist ever sent me was a bill! =o)
oh my goodness, that sounds horrible!
there are lots of good raw food recipes that get blended. google raw food soup! you get to throw awesome veggies and seasonings with oil and what not in the blender and come out with yummy soup. or smoothies. this stuff tastes good and is high nutrition which is what your body needs! What about clove oil to help with the pain? doTerra oils are some of, if not the best. I have a link on my blog. so worth it. Plus other oils could help with healing. you could find some info here: http://everythingessential.me/HealthConcerns/Toothache.html#page=page-2
feel free to delete this message if you don't like me having this info on your comment section, i understand.
wishing you health and happiness.
What a miserable way to start the new year, but something you needed to do. All those things you listed will taste so wonderful when you are finally able to eat them, and hopefully it will come soon. Heal fast!!
My dentist once sent me flowers quite a few years ago. I was in his office the day before my birthday and when asked my age responded with how old I was going to be the next day. I was very surprised to receive a delivery of flowers on my birthday the next day from him. And, yes, he still is my dentist!
And I thought having a wisdom tooth taken out was a big deal. Now I know why I didn't rteceive any flowers.
what a lovely gift to receive from a dentist!
beautiful bouquet!
Nice flowers and I hope that your recovery goes well and you can eat all you want.
I'm afraid of hydrocodone. The few times I've had it, I really, really, really, really liked it. I disposed of the pills but I didn't have pain like you do either.
Pretty flowers! I hope you will be feeling better and enjoying all those yummy foods again very soon!
I remember you saying you're having dental work done, but didn't know it was so sever. I am sorry, Gaelyn. What a wonderful lady your dentist is. I trust you were cheered by the beautiful bouquet. While we hiked in the Drakensberg and also in the Western Cape mountains, the diet was so bland (read 2 minute noodles and instant soup) that we'd all sit around in the evening and fantasize about steaks, pizza, ICE-COLD coca-cola etc! Hope you feel better soon. (((hugs))) Jo
Oh! Oh my! Gaelyn! I don't know if I should say you poor thing or CONGRATULATIONS! I'm so glad to hear you were able to get the work done you so desperately needed. And now I want to buy you a pizza (because PIZZA!). Congratulations on the flowers and the surgery and to new, lovely working teeth to make that infectious smile even brighter!
You definitely deserve the flowers! Wow, 6-8 weeks without real food is going to be tough. But this is a good excuse to live on milkshakes. Maybe that will tide you over.
What a kind thought but I can not imagine the pain you are in. They cracked my jaw taking out two wisdom teeth and I was in agony, yours sounds so much worse with top and bottom pain, Hope you feel better very soon.
Love your new header. Diane
That's one mighty considerate dentist. I feel for your pain, but like you say, this too shall pass!! I'll eat something crunchy for you in the meantime… ;<)
I do wish you a speedy recovery!! Your current state sounds unpleasant to say the least.
Beautiful bouquet. I hope it helps take your mind off the pain. I bet this liquid and soft food diet is making you loose weight and you look like you don't have enough to lose! Drink more milkshakes! I do hope you are feeling better soon!
aawwww Gaelyn. That's so very tough. There IS light at the end of this tunnel, and a bright one.
The flowers are lovely and very considerate.
I hope the rest of this healing time goes more smoothly.
