Second year for a New Year’s Day hike might be the beginning of a new tradition.
I love being able to hike right outside my door. Well, actually we usually drive the 1.5 miles to park near the gate, then off we go, up into the Weaver Mountains.
I know I’ve posted before about hiking in the Weavers, in fact that’s where last year’s first hike was as well.
I would love to live up here but the properties are just too expensive plus would have to bring in utilities from the access road. Out of my budget even though I’m kind of looking for a place to call my own. And, no I don’t have horses.
Mike thinks there’s gold and looks at every black sand opportunity. Hope he finds a big nugget one of these days then could afford to buy the land, and keep golding.
Although there are no houses built up on these many acres obviously someone had a dream.
It’s a real balancing act….
I’m talking about life here.
Maybe I should start off small.

hahahaha, I love that you jumped the fence even though it was posted.
What trespassing sign? I didn't see no trespassing sign. Are you sure?? I'm not trespassing, I'm hiking! Hehehe… Loved your hike!
we have an 1 1/3 for sale in Wilhoit(with all utilities and septic in) and 4 acres for sale on the other side of congress…very reasonable considering what they all sold for about three years ago….this weather is perfect for hiking…and I am very lucky…I literally can go from my front porch!
I love the balanced rocks! I hope you both find a huge gold piece!
Happy 2012!
It would be so cool if you and Mike found a piece of gold. Now that would be a Happy 2012. Great photos, I enjoyed going along on your hike. Have a wonderful week.
I also loved the pic of the fence climbing.
Obviously the no trespassing sign only applies to Californians and people who live in cities.
I agree with Yogi!! I love you climbing the fence — what better way??? I'm keeping my fingers crossed for both of you to find a huge piece of gold!! Hope your new year is off to a good start, Gaelyn!

Great post Gaelyn. I always think deep thoughts when I see those cairns (or a couple of times when I actually built one!)….but you express them so much better than I ever could. That's a perfect way to celebrate the New Year.
Ha Ha Ha! How many times did we climb over before we used the gate that's only five feet to the right? 🙂
What great rock "sculptures," Gaelyn! I like this hike. We're lucky to live amid wilderness, gold or not.
Beautiful pics. My OWT is up too.
Happy New Year from New Zealand.
What a great hike to have close by. I love the rock formations.
Oh, I loved how you went over the fence..hehehe! Hey, I have 5 horses. Let me know when you want one! (just kidding…) We are looking to retire in about 5 years and are scouting out areas already. Like you, we need some LAND!
It reminds of the area I used to hike In Southern California when the boys were small. Now those hills are covered with houses. I couldn't live there anymore.
Visiting from Our World Tuesday –I love the wild open spaces in the West! Imagine starting another gold rush?!
Ha! My favorite is the first photo….atta girl. And I have always loved those balancing rocks.
Dream big and start small-ish. I'm sure you'll make it.
Do you know, Gaelyn, l think l would get better there. even the veri word is telling me
exufflut: actually like it better that fecker. XXXXX
