Still parked in Kanab, Utah waiting for truck repairs. Think we’ll be here long?
Tuesday we took a drive up Johnson Canyon Road…
…which runs into the southwestern edge of the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument.
Along the way we saw this old movie set used for the TV show Gunsmoke starring James Arness. Kanab is known as “Little Hollywood” and maybe we’ll find time to explore their Movie Museum.
Following what I thought was a good map we tried to locate “Eagles Arch” and “Windmill petroglyphs” with no luck.
It’s deer hunting season and the BLM (Bureau of Land Management) land to the west of the road didn’t seem like a friendly place to hike. Especially as we weren’t wearing orange.
So we basically just drove, parking once in a while to absorb the view.
And take photos, of course.
This is horse country.
We drove the rest of the loop another day.
Escalante – one of my favorite (vast) places! The last time we visited, it was late Nov and chilly. Looks like you met the white stallion! (Some little kid is bummed!) Good Luck on the truck repairs.
You do live in Cowboy country, Gaelyn. I remember Gunsmoke and am thrilled to see the spot it was filmed. Your photos are amazing. They look like paintings. Have a good trip. (((Hugs))) Jo
Great photos..the clouds were Lovely! Bummer about the truck repairs. 🙁
Did you keep the horse?
Nice scenery!
Sorry about the truck needing repairs. OUCH!
I do love photos of the wild west. It's so different from Central Ontario!
If you can get to Lick Wash (on the Skutumpah Rd), you will find a real nice hike meandering beneath the White Cliffs.
As often happens in the blogosphere, I happened onto your blog from another I was reading, and I'm thoroughly enjoying your posts. Who knows – perhaps I've even met you at the North Rim on one of my visits there. Happy Travels!
Thanks for more pics of "Places I'm Going to See One Day." My list is getting longer and longer…. 🙂
I wouldn't want to go around dodging bullets either. The movie set seems like an interesting spot though.
Sky and cool rocks; all the stuff I like…
