For Mike’s 50th birthday we are celebrating by boating at Lake Powell and journeying to Rainbow Bridge. We’ve rented this 26 foot deck boat to carry us and our camp gear for three days and two nights.
We get on board at Antelope Marina in Page, Arizona. That’s about a two hour drive from the canyon so we’re leaving Wednesday after work and staying at a hotel for the night.

Lake Powell is 186 miles long and has 1,960 miles of shoreline, which is longer than the entire west coast of the continental United States. There are 96 major canyons to explore though I know we won’t have time to view them all I’m sure looking forward to floating into some secret places.
Rainbow Bridge, the world’s largest natural bridge, is considered a sacred place by the Navajo Indians, for whom personified rainbows have stood as guardians of the universe. This natural wonder nestles among canyons carved by streams en route to the Colorado River from Navajo Mountain’s north flank. Until the formation of Lake Powell, this was one of the most remote and inaccessible regions in the contiguous United States.

That's a *great* idea.. I've been wanting to see Rainbow Bridge for years, trying trying to figure out the best (and most economical) way to do it. I think you just provided the solution.. I really like the idea of renting the boat. Also want to see Hole in the Rock from the bottom if possible, I believe it's pretty near there, lake-wise.
I'll be reading your report on this trip with interest. Would you mind sending me the boat-hire info if you get a few minutes?.. if you click through on my blog to my website, you can find my contact info.
Looks like a great trip. Happy 50th to Mike!
I am green with envy for this trip! I can't wait to see photos! oh, and by the way, Happy Birthday to Mike.
You are embarking on another amazing trip. *sigh*
I would imagine exploring the sacret places of the Native Americans must be quite special as well.

Bob and I've rented a boat and toured Lake Powell many years ago. I'd love to do it again – can't wait for the photos. I'll be thinking of you, Gaelyn. Happy B-day to Mike! Hope you have good weather.
Sounds like a wonderful birthday celebration. The rainbow bridge reminds me of Arches Nat'l park.
What a great way to spend a birthday. Many happy returns of the day to Mike in retrospect.
I can't complain about how I spent my 75th, on Sunday either.
The rainbow Bridge is a magnificent natural phenomenon.
Great photo of Rainbow Bridge. We need to get back to Lake Powell.
