At 8200 feet summer blooms come a little late. Yet summer is certainly here at daily temperatures reaching 80 degrees.
This New Mexico Locust, Robinia neomexicana, is part of the Legume Family and the pea-shaped flowers taste like, you guessed it, peas. But watch out for the thorns.
Hope to get out tomorrow to see what else is in bloom.
Beautiful and it is good to know that you can eat the flowers too.
Oh, I wish we were getting over your way, but we're heading back to the Sierras this weekend and then up to the Mogollon Rim in August, up by Show Low.
Beautiful. It looks kind of like lupine.
Beautiful flower!I got a chuckle when I saw the "wheelestate" on your blog header.
have not seen this flower before.
Those are gorgeous!!
It's so interesting to see the very different flowers you have blooming at the Canyon compared to what we have here in the north. I'll need to post some of our wildflowers soon.
Nice and warm over there while we are cold and (thankfully) wet over here.
so beautiful!
They are beautiful, Gaelyn! It is nice to see what is blooming at the Grand Canyon. Thanks for sharing.
Dontcha just LOVE it?
Well summer has sorta arrived here. But no temps in the 80s. Sunday was the hottest at a maybe 75. But I like it.
My computer is still down so I don't comment as often as I'd like but I am still around. I am using a friends when I can. MB
I've never seen these in bloom. They're beautiful.
Amazing how almost all of the desert plants have developed thorns to protect them – and discourage man or animal from getting too close!
