March 26, 2010, I woke up on my birthday ready for a South African adventure.
First stop, after breakfast, go shopping. To see what all I treated myself to go here.
Then off to the Whale Museum.
Hermanus is a whale town.
The Southern Right Whales come to South Africa between May and December to mate and calf and are the most frequently seen in Walker Bay.
Being I was there at the wrong time of the year I settled with watching a very interesting slide show with artwork by Noel Ashton.
And explored the museum.
Sure wish I’d been there to see the real whales.
But, oh well, instead I walked around town checking out what the vendors had for sale before heading to the beach.
I have also always missed the whales in r4eal time :(( Love your photos. Diane
I am so enjoying your look back to your remarkable vacation. It would have been so sweet to have been there to see the whales. Great pics!
We didn't see any whales either, which is a shame as everyone told us right before we were traveling through, there had been a crazy number of them breaching off shore. Next trip…
with this photos, you let me curiouse about this place!
wish i can see it to
let me invite to view my space! hope you like it http://tiagophotografy.blogspot.com/ , i wish thath somehow my work can inspire you …..
Hugs from Portugal! 😀
Hmmm…just like us…not seeing the whales. But where were in OR at peak whale watching time and still struck out. Looks like a cool museum you went to.
I don't know how many times we've been someplace and missed the big attraction and had to make do with seeing other things. Sometimes though the other things turn out to be every bit as good as what you missed. And then every once in a while you hit the jackpot, sometimes through planning and sometimes just dumb luck, and then it's wonderful.
I like the whales and the artwork slide show! Seems you had a very exciting adventure. How I wish I could do that too. Keep posting!
But what fun you had even without actually seeing the whales. Love the skeleton though. There is one in the museum in Westpot too.
I have seen the Gray Whales at Langley in March. MB
I would love to visit there. So pretty. And so interesting.
Wouldn't it be breath-taking to see those wales for real! Wow! Still, seems like a great way to spend your birthday!
Hermanus is one of the best places in the world for shore based whale watching. Pity you were there out of season.
