After a quick stop in Mossel Bay I returned to N2…
…and continued west on an inland route across what I thought at the time was the Little Karoo with a plan to return to the coast. I’ve since learned this is called the Overberg region, south of the Little Karoo.
There really isn’t a coastal route that I could see on the map.
But I passed several side roads that looked inviting.
I’d decided to take R320 to Hermanus on the coast…
…and stay for a couple days in celebration of my birthday.
Looks like a lot of beautiful countryside. Wonderful photos, Gaelyn!
Very much enjoying the tour through the scenic South Africa countryside.
Those scenes look so familiar and yes I miss S.Africa. I love France but somehow the bush is not quite the same,I miss the wildlife 🙂 Diane
Nice to see more SA posts. Is it really a year ago that you were planning your trip? Where does time go?!
i'll go there now, yes please! 🙂 Great skies- and i love the elephant bracelet in your bday post – awesome!!
I don't know about that road, especially with all those clouds.
Don't shoot me, just helping. LOL!!! The road from Mossel Bay towards Cape Town (the N2 highway) runs through the Overberg region. Its mainly farming country and you would have noticed the fields. In Sept when the fields are green and the canola fields in full yellow bloom, the route is really a sight to enjoy. If you had driven directly to Cape Town from Oudtshoorn, you would have passed through the more arid Klein Karoo. 🙂 (Sorry, I feel bad now, but just thought I'll help you right cause you may not have picked it up this way on the internet)
Gorgeous countryside and an inviting road!
Look at those clouds. I imagine this is one of those places, not that YOU don't see a lot, where one can really feel away from civilization.
I LOVE sand roads!
That was exactly what the sky looked like the entire time we drove along that route, too! So stormy and gloomy seeming.
