After staying over night in George at The Red House B&B I was off early to Cango Cave.
The drive away from the coast into the Outeniqua Mountains was spectacular as I headed towards Oudtshoorn.
Outeniqua is said to be derived from a Khoisan tribe that once lived in these mountains and means “they who bear honey”.
Sure was a sweet drive.

Some big old skies there too, very nice.
Wow Gaelyn, beautiful photography. You were wonderful to explore SA like this on your own and to find so much! We did the Outeniqua hike in the New Year of 1999. We started in George (well, in the mountains, the first place was called Beervlei) and hiked 106km over six days up over those ole mountains. It was our first meeting with Debbie's parents and we were a whole group of diverse people. We overnighted in huts each night – of course all sleeping in the same room/s with other groups in other rooms. Great hike and we really got to know Barbara and Mike and today they are good friends of ours as well as extended family! Outdoor pursuits are good for all relationships! Have a great day. (((hugs))) Jo
Sorry, I meant to say, the hike ended in Knysna! From George to Knysna across the mountains. Jo
Great great skies! =)
Stunning skies. Diane
Beautiful skyscapes from way around the world from where you usually live and work! You are amazing in your travels.
This is a part of South Africa that I don't believe I have ever seen photos of before. The clouds were lovely the day you took these photos.
The clouds look as though they're pointing the way to adventure for you, Gaelyn. Love the lagoon shots on the former post.
These skies are as lovely as the Earth bound features you've been showing us.
I'm trying t psyc myself into getting up early for the bald eagle fly out in the Klamath Basin. I'm not sure I'll make it.
Beautiful scenery and great photos. I love the big sky.
One of those wonderful posts where you can feel your blood pressure dropping as it carries you along.
I love it when the clouds gleam like that against the sun.
Sorry I have been absent for a while. Times have been a little torrid with the Prof.
I've just been back looking at all the beautiful sights you saw in South Africa. Those memories will feed your soul in the years ahead.
Great pictures and wonderful clouds. I just love clouds and these are remarkable and I see a UFO too. heehee! MB
It looks like you set off quite early for Oudtshoorn. The weather conditions between the coast and the Klein Karoo on the other side of the Outeniqua Mountains can really differ by a lot. The moist coastal air keeps it nice and cool on the coast while the other side is much hotter and drier and you would have been able to see that in the vegetation. Indeed a beautiful area.
I don't know for sure how you pronounce the name of those mountains but if it is pronounced like it looks phonetically, it is a fun word to say! Nice feather clouds floating in that blue sky!
