After replacing my lost camera, Joan and I headed north towards the Drakensburg Mountains. We camped at Wagendrift Nature Reserve near Escort where I would later rent a car.
There are so many beautiful places to camp in South Africa with services including toilet, shower, and often laundry and food.
In the morning, the bathrooms provide great bug specimens.
I saw sunrise daily while traveling with Joan, not my typical pattern but oh so worth it.
Plover
Camping along the reservoir we saw several birds, most of which I couldn’t get photos of.
This was a really tranquil place to stop beating myself over putting my camera in a shallow pocket while walking the Durban beach and loosing it to the Indian Ocean. Even better, I got to start practicing with the new, bigger and better Fuji Finepix S1500.
Then we continued on into an even more spectacular landscape.
🙂
Beautiful shots, Gaelyn. How wonderful to travel as far as you did.
Regarding your comment: When I first moved up here we has no power more often than power and it never bothered me too much. During bad snow and ice sometimes for weeks at a time. That I didn't like too much but what the heck. I have a fireplace and woodstove and pocket doors to close off the room with the wood stove–Kerosene lanterns and lots of flashlights. Oh yes candles and lots of wood. And I have zillions of books to read and reread.
Well my wood pile is gone now–Kylee wanted to have a bonfire and friends over last Spring and burn the wood from winter downfalls so I said sure and they proceeded to burn ALL the wood around the place. Yipes!!!

You pictures show a country far more beautiful than I had thought.
Beautiful photos with your new camera Gaelyn. Yes and all those memories for me! Diane
We are camping in the Drakensberg over New Yera and I can't wait.
There must have been lots of birds next to the water. Bird lovers paradise.
Awesome shots from your Africa trip. Neat looking bird, Gaelyn.
