Do you ever wonder what it is that left tracks in the sand?
Mike and I were walking the beach along Lake Powell last week and saw these, which he says were left by a duck.
Darkling Beetle Coniontis
And I’ve followed these crisscrossing tracks many times but this is the first I’ve seen the beetle that made them.
That's amazing, Gaelyn. I would never have guessed a beetle made those. Thanks for showing and sharing. (((Hugs))) Jo
I love the patterns that animals and insects make in the sand and snow. That duck looks like it's trying to point the way to something!
A beetle is the very last thing I would have guessed!! Diane
Ha ha! A beetle! Who wudda thunk? Cool pics, babe. Ducks and beetles make very groovy sand textures.
Whenever I get out of the car when we travel, my feet find animal tracks. There are many ways of identifying them from scat to head hight clearance and of course any footprints or squiggles in case of snakes.
In unknown territory I even carry a pocket book on tracking.
I always thought I was an off creature but am glad to see I keep good company.
You should have added one of a lion or elephant just to confuse them Gaelyn. LOL!!
That's got to be a lot of work for a little beetle! Those duck tracks are downright mesmerizing – it almost looks like the sand's been folded.
Tracks are great. We can realize they are energetic imprints and track them to their source. Soon we begin to see that every action has an imprint attached to it. Therefore, we can track anything back to its source.
Who would guess a duck? Great blog. I really enjoyed perusing it. Your visit to S.A. and Joan inspired me to check it out as she is one of my favorite bloggers.
Cool! At my pond when the water is low there are usually a myriad of tracks. I like to figure out what is what. Usually dogs, ducks, birds, raccoons and then lots of squiggles—-I'll keep looking. MB
I like trying to identify tracks like I am some sort of sleuth. That bug makes a pretty impressive trail for his size.
I often wonder if most of the tracks I see in sand are not made by insects.. this is very cool. I would have said a snake in the top one but a duck makes sense.
and what a pretty beetle!
My first thought was also duck
Love the beetle tracks. I'll watch for such things. Sand is a good medium.
Cool! The beetle is especially neat. It's always fun to identify tracks I find.
Love tracks…I was going to say duck….cool track by that little beetle…
I always like to speculate. The duck tracks are cute.
