Sunset view south across False Bay Cape Peninsula South Africa
I’ve been up nights labeling the over 5000 photos taken in South Africa.
Something scurried across the desk from the left towards the keyboard. Yikes, a 2 inch (5 cm) scorpion. I think a Bark Scorpion, Arizona’s most dangerous of 56 species.
I quickly grabbed a Kleenex in one hand and my almost empty water glass in the other and swooped it into the glass.
Don’t think it liked going for a swim while I took pictures.
Now Joan has certainly influenced me when it comes to bugs, which this is not (it’s an arthropod) but close enough for government work. Know what I mean?
I am glad this guy visited you then and not while you were sleeping…ouch!
Keeewllllllllll !!!
So glad you enjoyed our beautiful country, pity was so short!!! I read your other entries on SA
Keep well, and watch out for such scorpions hey!!
LG
There is just no telling what may knock on the door next… maybe they heard about some man that gives sanctuary to lost creatures of creation…
Gaelyn, gorgeous sunset photo. I can take spiders but scorpions, NO WAY!
Loved all your pictures and comments. I am so happy you had such a wonderful adventure. Thanks for sharing.
Dear Gaelyn, This is the closest I care to get to one! Glad it didn't get in bed with you (or in a boot). Also, I enjoyed the wonderful bird photos in your previous post.
How can you sort through 5,000 pictures with scorpions scurrying around?
Gaelyn: Take care my friend with venomous critters. They pack a nasty wallop. And I thought my 1700 Europe photos was a lot.
LOL!! Seems like Joan has been a BAD influence in your life my friend!! 🙂
WOW!! I am not sure I want them crawling around my home although I did find one in my bath at one time.
Mike: It seems the word has spread about you. 🙂
Yikes is right!
Wow, you do have your camera handy even taking photos of a dangerous scorpion on your keyboard! And WOW, 5000 photos of your SA trip. Glad you could capture so many memories of our beautiful country. Isn't Cape Town just SOOOO beautiful? (Mike) the creatures have heard about you, for sure!
Yikes. I found one very similar to this one, only a bit more yellow, in my SHOE in southern France. Fortunately, I knew enough to shake shoes before putting them on.
I'm not an expert, but when my wife or daughters is screaming hysterically, and I run in to save the day… after the drama is over, if they ask what it "was," I look at whatever is smeared under my shoe, and it is always "a bug."
I like taking macros of little living things, but in my head, these are still generally classified as "bugs."
Anyway, about the scorpion, I'm glad you got it, rather than it getting you.
Well, I love the sunset photo but that scorpion gave me the willies. Thank goodness we do not have them here.
Scary! I wouldn't have had the courage to sweep it up with a kleenex and I don't think I would take my boots off again.
Oh my goodness…when u say dangerous like…how dangerous…could it make you very ill if it bit you?
Ugh! Our last night in Ngala, I spotted TWO scorpions (of the black variety) in our bathroom and maybe had a mild panic attack. I've been stung twice–while working in the desert in Arizona by a critter that looks like the one above–and it ain't a picnic.
