Road into Weaver Mts
Finally got myself out of the house and motivated to walk on the first day of 2010.
Kissing rocks
About a mile from where I live in the boulders there is a gated access road into a someday housing development on the eastern flanks of the Weaver Mountains.
View east towards town
After climbing over the gate I can follow several miles of semi-graded dirt roads or take off across the landscape on animal trails.
I heard more birds than I saw, scared up a rabbit, spotted a few lizards scurrying into cracks in the rocks and saw the tracks and scat of coyote, deer, javelina, cattle, and maybe a bobcat.
Yes, a pond in the desert
I really do need to get outside more often and walk in nature. I don’t make New Year’s resolutions, yet it does seem like a good time to make some changes. Karen at FabGrandma’s got me to thinking about goals for this year.

Hi Gaelyn,
Love this hike. Wish M and I could have been there with you. What is a javelina by the way?
Also love the header photo!
Craig
Sounds like a nice hike, I thought those rocks had to have a name "kissing rock" is a good name for them. Great photo, I enjoyed your post.
Thanks for the hike, I wish I had some blue sky to hike under. I'm getting cabin fever.
The Kissing Rocks are sweet! I love the reflection too not to mention the last pic of that wonderful tree!
Gaelyn: Really cool shots, I liked the kissing rocks and the tree reflection.
It looks like you had a similarly gorgeous day to the one we did. You just have to get outside on such days and we did too, for a spot of geocaching. It would be a shame to stick housing in such a beautiful area if you ask me.
What a beautiful place to go for walks. I like the kissing rocks, the pond and the tree in the last shot.
You most definitely have beautiful scenery to motivate you to get out and about! And no snow! How cold is it?
I adore walks in nature, am captivated by the beauty of the desert and absolutely detest the sound of a "someday housing development." Developers are the scourge of our earth. (IMHO) Uprooting kissing rocks and destroying habitats and leveling gentle swells of land, forming asphalt and concrete and vinyl siding into static, fetid, sterile … subdivisions. Oh…wait, I digress….what was the topic again? Oh…Happy New Year, Gaelyn!
Lovely shots, Gaelyn! The last one is my favorite -very serene! So relaxing!
Lovely images to begin this new year. Great to be in the out-of-doors, isn't it? What a beautiful world we have to explore!
Happy New Year!
I like the word "goal" instead of "resolution." Its inference seems more positive and doable. Keep walking, Gaelyn! (And take us with you.)
YES, you do need to get out walking…and be sure to NOT forget your camera! 🙂
A very nice place to walk even in winter! It is freezing here! Why on why did we come to Alabama? Thanks for the link, I appreciate it.
HI Gaelyn, where does the water in the pond come from? Is it perhaps fed by a fountain? LOve your rock pictures.
I especially like the last two pics Gaelyn. Sometime it is hard to stir ourselves into action but it is so worth it in the end.
Gaelyn,
What a beautiful hike to start the new year with! I am so glad you got to be out there enjoying natures beauty! I bet you will find yourself outdoors more and more. Thank you for sharing the beautiful photos, I can soak up a little sun through them, since we are getting none here.
Happy New Year!!
May this new year bring you lots to blog about. Wishing you a wonderful New Year. Happy trails.

An actual developement 'someday'? Schemers?
I don't make resolutions either but I see I do need to make some changes to my daily life. Whatever! MB
A "Weaver" of beauty. Thanks for taking us on your hike. I think hikes are always more fun if you have to climb a fence or two. LOL
I set myself a couple of new years resolutions and getting out for walks are one of them as well. Lets hope a future development doesn't spoil this piece of land.
Beautiful scenery and photography! What a nice walk! Gus and I started doing a walk on New Year's Day about 4 years ago. It's a nice tradition to have!
What a beautiful area…..too bad it has to be developed some day, especially since wilderness is becoming such a precious commodity. 🙁
Love the turtle doves below and the kissing rocks and tree with the sun behind from this walk. Always a good idea to get out more. And your world is warmer than ours, so no excuses!
Lovely photos of such an interesting place! Haven't been by to visit in a while…had to see what you've been up to! Hope you had a great Christmas, and hope whatever goals you set for 2010 will be successful for you!
That must have been a peaceful walk! Happy New Year!
