My ex-husband wanted to sail around the world. Not in this 22 foot Tanzer, but it was our first sailboat. We still lived in Wenatchee Washington when we bought and moored this towable boat in Seattle. After making our weekends longer for sailing which meant a three hour drive over the Cascade Mountains, we finally sold almost everything and moved aboard for a summer. We had dock space on Lake Union and played in the Sound amongst the San Juan Islands. I loved the quiet on the water. We named the boat ROGAZO, using the first two letters of his, mine and son’s names. It had a tiny little cabin and you could basically sit on the head (that’s toilet for you land lubbers) and reach everything: bed, table, sink and stove.
Although the idea of traveling the world captured my heart being out of sight of land did not. It was just one of the things that broke us apart. Yet I am happy to report that he still has this dream and along with his new wife will be traveling the world on a bigger sailboat within the next couple of years.
Sally from The (Mis) Adventures of Karl and Sally has started a new meme where the past is remembered through sharing old family photographs and this is #19. I love the idea and hope you will too. So join the fun by clicking here.
I’m still in the canyon so won’t be able to link this. Will try to catch up on posts when I return from hiking rim to rim across the Grand Canyon.
Interesting. It looks like a very small boat to me although I'm sure its very nice.
How sad Gaelyn. I had a dream also….
I hope you have good memories.
With my ex I sometimes feel like I was never really married to him having been divorced longer than the marriage. I do have 2 children but it feels so long ago. I am glad he is remarried and we can be kind to one another.
The hubby and I fancied living aboard a boat as well but snapped out of it after a few misadventures. Today, we enjoy more sitting above the water on our deck watching the boaters and toasting them as they pass. I'm glad you and your Ex have found paths that a better fit for each. Good luck to Mr. & Mrs. Ex, and keep those AZ posts comin'!
Sailing seems like a lot of work to me, and I'd get nervous too, once I got so far I couldn't see land. My wife is even less adventurous than me, so we're good.
I love to read these posts from the past Gaelyn..Have a safe hike… Michelle
Oh, the dreams we have. I read and copied a saying by James Dean today about dreams.
"Dream as if you'll live forever. Live as if you'll die today."
Great post.
I am fortunate that hubby and I shared the dream of living close to the Sierra where we could hike whenever we wanted.
Working on my family history I find I linger over old photos, remembering good times, they are the only ones worth remembering.
Great post.
Honourable: you honour his dream's journey and honour your own spirit's quest.
go around the world in a sailboat, hmm a dream indeed, at least for me.
You have done it all Gaelyn. So many ways to live and to experience life.
I think it's fantastic that he's going to be living his dream 🙂
nice post..I wouldnt be able to live off land either..like the rv life much better…
Rim to Rim..wow..how far is that? see u when u get back..
Another interesting peek into your past. I am happy now that you both seem to be living out your dreams. I'm NOT a boat person either. A self-contained automobile to travel around the US is something I want, and I hope to make this trip in the not-too-far-off future.
I wouldn't mind doing the whole cruise ship thing (which I have done once) but the whole little boat idea is not for me. Not at all.
I love to travel, but that would scare me to death. But there IS nothing like the quiet of water. Or the noise of water that seems so peaceful. (When I got out of my car near the ocean, the roar was loud. But it was peaceful.)
Wenatchee, WA, is where I was visiting a friend and went "over the edge" with my stamping thing. There were so many stamps and stores there!
