The Toadstools trailhead is 1.5 miles east of the Paria Station visitor center along Hwy 89 in Southern Utah, Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. Have to look close for it or you’ll fly right by the parking area.
The trail to the toadstools is an easy 2 miles round trip in a wash and past the deposited layers of sandstone, limestone and shale.
The toadstools kind of sneak up on you.
They are majestic.
And come in all sizes.
Of course you can’t eat these toadstools unless you’re a rock giant with very strong teeth.
A storm was heading my way so I rather booked it out of there and continued my journey to Lake Powell.

Aww cute! Toadstools!
What an interesting landscape, gorgeous too!
Hi Gaelyn, I've been to Escalante but never have seen the Toadstool area. I really liked the picture (4th, I think) of the tall toadstool against the sky backdrop. I'll enjoy your further adventures.
Those weren't the kind of toadstools I was expecting, they were even better!
No more petroglyph pics, it was mostly trail. Sorry!
In all my trips to Zions, I have never been to the toadstools. My wife and I will visit them next year.
Thanks – beautiful pictures.
WOW!! What fantastic formations and colors Gaelyn.
Interesting! I love the toadstool against the sky and seeing the storm off in the distance.
I missed you photo last week. What beauty!
Grand photos of grand toadstools. Very cool!
Fascinating rock formations! The storms move in quickly in that part of the world. You were wise to head back. We were once caught in quite a hailstorm down in Grand Staircase.
Amazing frames of nature you've got. So that I really have to stop hee to catch a glimpse of your place, always.
Another place we've been by many times but never stopped. I think it's a must now with a hike like that. I love the storm photo.
Fantastic photos, would love to go see those magnificent rock formations.
Hello Gaelyn,
These are very very interesting rock formations! They look like the fairy chimneys of Cappadocia region in my country but are sharper I suppose.

Have a delightful weekend!
Best regards,
awesome images
When I read the title, I thought, "Toadstools in the desert? This will be interesting!" And sure enough, it was! Those are incredible rock formations. Thanks for sharing.
Gian toadstools. they are great. Interesting landscape. I love it.
That old truck on my blog belongs to my daughter's Father in law. It is out on the ranch in Ritzville. I'll tell them you will be by soon. Isn't it a beauty. MB
Wonderful rock formations Gaelyn.
Gaelyn: Those toadstools are so cool. I'm glad no-one disturbs them.
Fantastic rock formations. I love the photo with the storm approaching.
How totally cool!!!! You show us the most amazing scenery – and I grew up in Arizona!
