Bright Angel Trail to South Rim (this is yet to come)
After arriving at Indian Garden campground I ate and took a rest. All food must be put into the provided ammunition boxes. And we found out why when one, or more, of the overly obnoxious rock Squirrels helped themselves to a candy bar.
Plateau Point Trail & North Rim Grand Canyon National Park
We hiked out the 1.5 miles (2.4 km) to Plateau Point for Sunset.

The river lies 1300 feet (400 m) below and we could see Horn Creek Rapids just before the bend.

Dung Beetle
On the way back under moon light we spotted this dung beetle. My boss almost stepped on a pink rattlesnake. These are found only at Grand Canyon.
Not my photo
Slept, but not much, on the ground that night. Mostly watched the stars circle round. And thought a lot about the last 4.6 miles (7.4 km) with a gain of 3060 feet (933 m) to top out on the South Rim.

The colors in those rocks are astounding Gaelyn. Love the boots and the view of the river. A PINK rattlesnake?? My goodness, that is a new one for me.
Aren’t you brave to sleep on the ground with pink rattlesnakes slithering amuck! Stunning sunset from Plateau Point. Looks like you had a great time.
GOOD day my friend…lovely report from the Canyon. I am so enjoying your trek. The photos are great and that sunset…wow.
Be safe and enjoy.
Great shot of the rattlesnake, a little to close for my taste. That was a gorgeous sunset.
What an amazing hike. I could never do it with my fear of heights, but I can enjoy it all through your posts. Thanks – Margy
That is a beautiful sunset.
The pink rattlesnake gives me the shivers though. I am not a snake fan. I hope you had a good telephoto lens to get that picture. 🙂
Nice sunset pic! I set as my desktop background. Thanks.
What an exotic environment. Amazing critters.
Gorgeous, all of it. You look like one of the children from the Sound of Music with your braids. Cute!
Terrific post and gorgeous photos, Gaelyn! I do love the Grand Canyon. The shots of the river are marvelous!
Fantastic photos, the first pic is my favourite. i can’t believe all the different colors in those rocks, wow.
Have a great week

Oh, thanks for sharing this hiking experience in the Grand Canyon. I’ve always thought that I would love to do that but I don’t think I have the stamina to do it. That pink snake gives me the willies. Oh, how I hate snakes. Can’t wait to here more about this adventure tomorrow.
Gaylyn,
These photos brought back fond memories for me – except I didn’t nearly step on a rattle snake!
Stunning photos! A pink rattlesnake?!? It really is a beauty although I’m scared of them. I never knew of this type and I am from the land of rattlesnakes (Texas, particularly living in the desert now). I love your hiking style!
Your photos are awesome, Gaelyn. The purple prickly pear, the green Colorado River, and the pink rattlesnake – just beautiful.
Your picture sof Grand Canyon are breathtaking! What a wonderful tour! Must be a great feeling to spend the night on the ground near the river watching the stars! But the rattle snake looks rather dangerous 🙁
beautiful colours in these pictures of the canyon
Wow! You are on quite a hike. I spent a few days in Eastern Wa. and came home across the North Cascades and stopped and took a few trails–well my dog and I. I would say we walked, nothing like a hike. LOL MB
Gee you must be fir by now so nothing can phase you. The pink rattler does nt look very appealing, more like a ghostly apparition.
I really really really….love your post. I hope, I get a chance to see your world for real not just in photos. Thanks, they are lovely and very scenic.
the first pic is awesome! I love coming here, it makes me feel like i’m hiking the Grand Canyon too.
My world is here
The green emerald colored stream is breath taking. Beautiful shots and a scary shot! Thanks. 🙂
Gaelyn: Wonderful shots of the canyon but that rattler is scarry. It is all coiled and ready to strike.
Great pictures of grand nature. I guess you know what cactuses you can drink from too. It ‘s a lot of survival things we others don’t know about.
I loved all of these photographs. I like how you showed both the wide landscape views and the more intimate close ups.
Fantastic photos…Urghh a pink snake…I’d be terrified. Thanks for sharing your world with us.
I love the sunset…the rattlesnake not so much…even if it is pink.
What a hike…sorry about the hard ground..I would love to do that hike…as long as someone or something else would be carrying the load.
The pink rattler is cool, and I love that sunset shot.
OMG it maybe pink but it still scared the b-jesus out of me, gods knows what it did to your poor boss! Love the prickly pair cactus, we have that around here and I love it.
