Any day now, I can feel it in the air. That, BTW, was over 70 degrees F in February, with a light breeze.
Pincushion Cactus
And already this cluster of cacti next to an anomaly are beginning to bloom.
Groundsel, I think
I don’t know what these PBFs (pretty blue flowers are, couldn’t find it in my limited desert field guide.
Parry’s Century Plant
Doesn’t really take a century to bloom, just many years (according to Audubon). The Mexican species is used to make mescal and tequila. Bottoms up!
Banana Yucca
These flowers make a delicious snack, very moist.I’m just dreaming that Spring is tomorrow. These photos were taken last spring. But this year’s are coming.

If I’ve identified any of these wrong, sorry. Please feel free to correct me.
A Banana Yucca? Wow – I haven’t seen one of those (or even heard of it until now). What an interesting plant. And you can eat teh flowers? I’m so intrigued!
I am sure everyone will be pleased for the warmer weather at last. I love these cacti Gaelyn. Next time please take a close-up shot of the flowers for me. 🙂 I know you said they were taken last spring and I was not around then. 🙂
We have that same blue flower here and makes a nice ground cover in a garden too. That Parry’s Century Plant Is something I have never seen the likes of before and very interesting. Thanks for sharing all this.
Desert flowers are so stunning! I suppose it is the dry surroundings that make them stand out so.
Yes, spring is nearly here and it looks like you’re finding interesting signs of it. I love it when some cacti deviate like that. Could your pretty mystery flower be Goodding’s Verbena?
mmmmm, 70 degrees sounds nice. Even with a breeze, you don’t have to worry about windchill!
Looks like the desert is alive with color.
I woke up to snow this morning
Those pictures are awesome. I loved “PBF”. hehe And the banana yucca…how amazing. I have never seen or heard of the banana variety.
Really interesting subjects. I know you are just waiting until the desert blooms again. I love the explanations you give.
I love this time of year when the desert is in bloom. You’re so lucky!
I’ve never seen a century plant at that stage. Very interesting!
