Desert sunset
Ah, the winter desert was beautiful to walk through and the sunsets were spectacular for this gypsy life. Yet as spring approached I knew it was time to head back to the Northwest and return to work as a cave guide at Oregon Caves National Monument.
Oregon Caves Chalet houses the Visitor Center & dormitory above. (Sorry the pano is contorted, the building is not bent.)
When I arrived in March there was still snow.
View into the Siskyou Mountains from Lake Mt.
Yet it soon melted and the beauty of spring and summer slipped away, mostly underground.

Carson and I went hiking after work almost every day; the forest was right outside our door.

Sometimes I’d hike on the monument where he couldn’t go along.

As fall approached I decided to stay as a volunteer at Oregon Caves.
My friend is a warden in the UK and he wouldn’t do anything else. I can see why to be at one with nature is so freeing.
Your gypsy life sounds wonderful! Thanks for the photos.
I agree, your gypsy life does indeed sound wonderful! Love the photos. Thanks as always for sharing!
AH! The fabulous gypsy life! I think we’re all going to end up feeling jealous. 😉
Gaelyn: Thanks for sharing all the neat photos from the park.
At one time, I also wanted to be a park ranger.
Lovely post. Happy 2009.
You’ve got some great photos there, Gaelyn. I’m so envious of the life you are living.
I think Stacey and I have taken that same trail before. There was patchy snow in the high country and we ended up taking some loop trail where we can see the Siskiyou Mountains and California in the near distance. Well, we slid down a snow patch from the ridge which led us to some jeep road which brought us back to some trail. I can see it in my mind but I usually don’t digest the names.
I don’t know if I have the courage to lead a gypsy life, but I sure envy the beautiful places in your world.
SOOOOOOOOO beautiful.
Very nice. I envy you being able to take hikes without driving long distances.
Lovely country, I can see why you love it and wanted to return.
Great shots, Arizona is one state I have yet to visit, but its definately high on my must see list. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers and Happy New Year!
