While researching possible places to visit in Africa I put Victoria Falls high on my list.  Known by the original people as “Smoke that Thunders” the falls mark the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe.  I’m thinking this might be the perfect place to fulfill my wish to take a hot air balloon ride.

Victoria Falls is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  Claimed to be the largest waterfall in the world with a width of 5604 feet (1708 m) and a height of 354 feet (108 m) that forms the largest sheet of falling water in the world.  During the wet season, peak flood being March and April, the falls may not be visible from the ground due to the powerful mist and during the dry season, November and December, the rocky basalt cliffs may be visible.  I’ll take the view however I can.

Is Victoria Falls on you bucket list?

My world for the last week has been at the computer doing research. Now I love travel planning for places I want to visit, but my butt’s sore, my eyes are crossed and my fingers ache.

I know you’ve heard this before, but I’ve made a travel decision.  Nice thing about decisions is they can be changed.

“So go”, you’re probably thinking.  And I will, but not until after the first of the year.  Still need to do more research.  Yea, I’m anal about that.  And it’s not like every minute of my journey will be planned.  I just like to have a long list of possibilities.

Two nights before I left the North Rim I made it to Cape Royal for my last sunset over the canyon for several months to come.  The amazing light and the shadow shapes captured my imagination.
