This week’s Foto Friday Fun features 10 images chosen by readers from my photo files including sandstone, wildlife, and fall colors.
Sherry and David chose #9000. In late May, this year, the last light brightened part of Wotans Throne while some remained in shadow. Seen from Cape Royal North Rim Grand Canyon.
Jim and Diana chose #1889, “the year North Dakota (the state we are currently in) was admitted to the Union.” So this doesn’t look anything like North Dakota because this redrock, similar to the Southwest but also with lush green vegetation is in South Africa. Golden Gate Highlands National Park actually. Their choice was one of seven in a panorama, so you get both.
Sallie and Bill chose #922. Elk are commonly seen on the South Rim of Grand Canyon, these from when I visited during winter 2012.
Jodee and Bill chose #2383. A pair of gray-headed cranes seen in Camdeboo National Park, South Africa in February 2013.
Pam and John chose #1409. They like to hike in canyon country in the desert southwest (or any kind of country for that matter). If they ever get to Illinois I encourage them to hike in the sandstone canyons of Starve Rock State Park. This is a place I grew up loving and returned in 2012 when back for a high school reunion.
Diane and Nigel chose #1509. These fall colors are from the same trip back to Illinois as above.
Patti and Abi chose #450. I make my own espresso every morning. This stove top espresso pot bought at a thrift store in 2009 is a little different than my current model which doesn’t steam milk.
Yogi chose #7500. Zebras, much like horses, stand nose to tail to help keep the flies off their faces. These two were seen from an underground birdhide in Addo Elephant National Park South Africa in March 2014.
Jeff chose #918 for Fran’s birthdate. My one boat trip on Lake Powell was for someone’s birthday. A huge lake with infinite side canyons like this in Dry Rock Creek Canyon. I was saddened to think of what all was buried under the waters and will never go on the lake again.
Donna chose #717. Just one tiny corner of art in my friend Berta’s yard. She is a collector of interesting things.
My choice is the turning aspen for welcoming the official first day of fall.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Love autumn colours but just wish it was not a sign of the approaching cold. I see out lawn is already covered with fallen leaves. Like Berta’s art collection I would love to look through all the things she has collected. Beautiful set of photos though the snowy one have me a chill the espresso warmed me up 🙂 2209 for next week please. Hope you have a good weekend, hugs from us both. Diane and Nigel
PS. I still cannot get rid of the ‘s’ at the end of the https on the website details despite a big red ring around it obviously saying it is incorrect!! I have just looked at it in your html and you may be able to remove the ‘s’ but I obviously cannot edit your blog.
Totally agree with you about the lovely fall colors being a sign of coming cold winter which I don’t like either. Have you down for #2209.
Don’t know why the “s” shows up but the URL gets me to your site.
I’m totally with you on reservoirs.
1858 for next week….for Minnesota.
Seems like the wrong time of year to be in Minnesota. But you get #1858.
I especially liked the fall colors. I didn’t know horses and zebras stand nose to tail, how interesting.
Next week #727
Thanks Donna. Swishing tails act as fly swatters. You get #727 next week.
Abi is the coffee drinker – I’ve never been able to acquire a taste for it – but Abi loves the stuff.
Another nice collection of photos this week. Hello from Malaga, Spain.
Next week #460
Thanks. I didn’t start enjoying coffee until introduced to lattes. Now I’m hooked every morning, but no more as I’m hyper enough. #460 for you next week.
Merry Fall Equinox to you Gaelyn. Love Berta’s art and the path through the grasses to the hills in South Africa but I love my picture the most. Wow what fabulous photography. I think I’ll take 5960 for next week please.
Thank you Sherry. Happy Autumn to you as well. I’m thinking your eastern colors are pretty nice. Have you down for #5960.
Love my cranes – that blue/gray is so beautiful. The Starve Rock trees are stunning! Berta’s little art corner is so sweet. I’m sure the items all tell wonderful stories.
6373 for next week please.
Berta’s collections all have stories, mostly rescued from yard sales and thrift stores. You get #6373 next week.
Happy Fall to you!! Love your choice for the week, perfect for the Equinox today — and I was once again amazed that ‘my’ choice — your South Rim elk reflected my most current post which also features Elk. Enjoyed every picture and the stories that went with them. May we have 1001 next week? It will be close to the new month — why does summer always go by so fast?
PS; I love an occasional latte — but can’t quite get into plain espresso…. do you actually drink it without steamed milk? How much?
Was thinking you just saw Elk in your part of the country. Once in the morning quadruple espresso with dark chocolate and almond syrup and lots of ultra heavy cream just not steamed. You get #1001 next week.
That sounds so good — and ought to jolt you right into your busy day ;>)
Starve Rock State Park has been on my list. We try to choose a different route every time we head east to see family. Maybe next spring we can head that way. Love the bright yellow aspen:) Boy was Lake Powell ever high. I, too, struggle with all that was lost. They did recover quite a bit before the fill but still lost a ton of history.
#2209
You’ll love Starve Rock when you get there. The water was much higher then but it could go back down more as far as I’m concerned. Have you down for #2209.
You make your own expresso!! Hard core!!
Great pics.
I am wondering how long Lake Powell will last. Lots and lots of silting up as I understand.
Probably should have never been built.
Thanks. Been making my own espresso for years, saves a lot of money. Between the silt and low water Lake Powell is doomed. You get #7499 next week.
7499 for next week
Next week I’d like 251 the sum of the photos choices I like for your calendar 🙂 I hope it invokes better memories than that of my Lake Powell choice!
